Halong Canfoco (Halong Canned Food Joint Stock Company) has recently addressed the incident involving the discovery of African swine fever-infected pigs intended for food processing. The company clarified that all nine individuals arrested and prosecuted are external parties, with no affiliation to the company’s employees, management, or staff.

The company was implicated due to its acceptance of raw materials based on complete and valid documentation provided by the supplier, which was issued by authorized state agencies. This has been acknowledged by investigative authorities during their verification process.

Upon detecting the issue in September 2025, Halong Canfoco promptly reported and cooperated with relevant authorities throughout the investigation. The company also implemented quarantine and disposal measures for the non-compliant raw materials as directed by competent state agencies.

Authorities discovered African swine fever-infected pigs supplied by a third-party vendor at Halong Canfoco’s warehouse.

The company has since conducted a comprehensive review of its raw material sourcing and supplier selection processes, enhancing risk prevention measures within its supply chain.

Halong Canfoco acknowledged this as a critical supply chain incident, impacting its reputation and short-term operations. However, the company emphasized that the non-compliant raw materials were never used in production or distributed to the market.

“All products currently in circulation fully comply with food safety regulations and are rigorously monitored under our internal quality control procedures,” stated Halong Canfoco.

The company’s facility maintains certifications such as ISO 22000 and FSSC 22000 and is subject to regular inspections by regulatory authorities.

Previously, Hai Phong City Police initiated legal proceedings against nine individuals for violating food safety regulations. These individuals were involved in a scheme to procure African swine fever-infected pork, which was stored at Halong Canfoco’s warehouse, with a portion intended for canned food production. According to authorities, over 120 tons of contaminated pork were collected, including approximately 2 tons earmarked for production. The investigation is ongoing, and Halong Canfoco is awaiting the final conclusions regarding the responsibilities of all involved parties.

Established in 1957 as Halong Canned Fish Factory, Halong Canfoco is headquartered at 71 Le Lai, Hai Phong City. It is one of Vietnam’s earliest canned food processing facilities. Following restructuring, modernization, and corporatization, the company now operates as a joint stock entity, listed on the Hanoi Stock Exchange under the ticker CAN.

Halong Canfoco’s product portfolio includes canned meat, canned fish, pâté, sterilized sausages, canned vegetables, and other processed foods. The company primarily serves the domestic market through a network of distributors, retailers, and direct sales channels.
