On January 9th, Vice Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee, Nguyen Hong Hai, inspected and reviewed the investment preparation and implementation plan for the runway and taxiway repair project at Lien Khuong International Airport.

According to the report, the runway and taxiway system at Lien Khuong International Airport, constructed between 2003 and 2007, has exceeded its design lifespan. Inspection results reveal severe pavement deterioration, multiple damages, reduced load-bearing capacity, and potential flight safety risks.

Over the years, the Ministry of Transport (now the Ministry of Construction) has permitted several phases of maintenance, repairs, and localized fixes to sustain operations. However, these solutions have been temporary.

Lien Khuong International Airport is scheduled to temporarily close from March 4, 2026.

The runway and taxiway repair project is part of the airport’s planning adjustments, with key components including: repairing the deteriorated existing runway; upgrading the taxiway system; improving drainage systems; enhancing technical infrastructure and equipment for flight operations; and constructing foundations for specialized equipment.

During the meeting, the ACV Project Management Unit confirmed full readiness to commence the project. The construction and consulting teams have extensive experience in aviation infrastructure repair and construction.

ACV also requested the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee to ensure a continuous supply of construction materials to maintain uninterrupted construction, aiming to complete the project before September 2nd to meet public travel demands.

Concluding the meeting, Vice Chairman Nguyen Hong Hai affirmed that the Provincial People’s Committee would direct relevant agencies to collaborate with ACV in ensuring road connectivity to the airport for construction purposes, as well as maintaining security, order, and traffic safety throughout the project.

Additionally, the provincial leadership urged the investor and related units to proactively survey material sources, ensure labor safety and environmental hygiene, and coordinate with relevant departments and localities to resolve emerging challenges.

Emphasizing the importance of the runway and taxiway repair project at Lien Khuong International Airport, the provincial leadership called on relevant departments to enhance coordination and facilitate ACV and the construction unit in completing the project before August 15, 2026.

Located approximately 30km from Da Lat city center, Lien Khuong Airport was established in 1933 and officially recognized as the first international airport in the Central Highlands region in June 2024.

Under the 2030 master plan, Lien Khuong Airport will achieve 4E status, with a capacity of 5 million passengers annually. Plans include the addition of Terminal 2 for international flights, positioning the airport as a key aviation hub connecting the Central Highlands with major economic and tourism centers domestically and internationally.
