The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment is set to revolutionize the traceability of agricultural products, starting with durian. By July 1st, a comprehensive traceability system for key agricultural produce will be evaluated, finalized, and implemented. This system will include essential details such as participating farmers, production areas, harvesting times, and processing stages. Each product will feature an electronic authentication label, a traceability label, and a QR code for easy information retrieval.

Additionally, a standardized data format for traceability information will be established and applied nationwide. Pilot programs for crop and cultivation journals, including input control (fertilizers, animal feed, pesticides, veterinary drugs, and chemicals), will run until 2026.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment will pioneer durian traceability.

From 2027 to 2030, the system will be upgraded to record and manage data across all key stages (production, procurement, processing/packaging, transportation, and distribution), with QR codes or data carriers on product labels for traceability.

A significant development will be the integration of data with the national traceability portal, local traceability systems, and other national databases, creating a seamless and interconnected network.

A prioritized list of agricultural products requiring traceability will be compiled and updated in the system, forming a comprehensive traceability chain.

By 2035, the Ministry aims to perfect its agricultural product traceability system, incorporating all products under its management. This will establish a complete traceability chain for all agricultural goods and inputs.

The system will be seamlessly connected with the national product traceability portal, local systems, and other national databases, ensuring smooth data synchronization.

This initiative will be extended to organizations, individuals, and businesses in the agricultural sector, encouraging their participation in the Ministry’s traceability system. This will protect consumer rights, enhance public trust in food quality and safety, and promote Vietnamese agricultural products globally.

On December 26th, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment launched the Vietnamese Agricultural Product Traceability System. Minister Tran Duc Thang emphasized that this launch marks a significant milestone in the agricultural sector’s digital transformation, enhancing product quality, value, and consumer trust domestically and internationally.

The plan for implementing traceability of agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products from 2026 to 2030, with a vision to 2035, aims to refine legal frameworks and guidelines for traceability. It also seeks to socialize traceability efforts, improving state management, ensuring food quality and safety, protecting consumer health and the environment, and facilitating international integration.

This initiative will raise awareness among the public, agencies, organizations, businesses, and individuals about the importance and effectiveness of agricultural product traceability, ensuring transparency and providing essential information.

Models for agricultural, forestry, and aquatic product supply chains will be developed to comply with traceability, quality, and food safety regulations, as per the amended Product Quality Law, the Food Safety Law, and related provisions.
