On January 11th, the People’s Committee of Dong Nai Province announced that the groundbreaking ceremony for the Cat Lai Bridge and Long Hung Bridge projects will take place on January 15th. These infrastructure projects aim to connect Dong Nai with Ho Chi Minh City, fostering economic and social development in Dong Nai and the Southeast region.
Previously, the People’s Committee of Dong Nai Province approved the selection of investors for the Cat Lai and Long Hung (Dong Nai 2) bridge projects under special circumstances. These projects will be implemented through a public-private partnership (PPP) model, specifically a Build-Transfer (BT) contract. The investors are consortia led by Construction Corporation No. 1 – JSC.
Cat Lai Ferry will be replaced by the Cat Lai Bridge
According to the decision, the total investment for the Cat Lai and Long Hung bridges is nearly 30 trillion VND. Investors will arrange the entire capital for the projects, including equity and loans, and will be compensated through land auction revenues managed by the state or public investment funds.
These projects were selected under a special mechanism due to their urgent nature, as they are crucial for supporting the Long Thanh Airport, enhancing inter-regional connectivity, and promoting economic and social development in Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City.
The Cat Lai Bridge is designed with a total length of approximately 11.6 km, including a 3 km main bridge with 8 lanes, and a design speed of 80 km/h. The project starts at Nguyen Thi Dinh Street, Cat Lai Ward (Ho Chi Minh City), and ends in Dai Phuoc Commune (Dong Nai). Upon completion, it will replace the overburdened Cat Lai Ferry, improving connectivity between the two localities amid growing travel demands.
Meanwhile, the Long Hung Bridge spans about 12 km, with a 2.3 km bridge section connecting National Highway 51 (Tam Phuoc Ward, Dong Nai) to Ring Road 3 (Long Phuoc Ward, Ho Chi Minh City). The road is designed with 8 lanes and a speed limit of 80 km/h, linking the northern and northeastern areas of Ho Chi Minh City with Dong Nai, Long Thanh Airport, and reducing congestion on existing routes such as National Highway 1, National Highway 51, and the Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway.
