The latest Honor smartphone maintains the Magic series’ signature traits: competitive pricing, impressive camera specs, a large display, and top-tier performance and storage.
However, the battery life has significantly improved, and the Magic8 Pro promises seven years of software updates, along with one of the most extensive software feature sets on any Android device.
In a recent review, Tom’s Guide praised the Honor Magic8 Pro as a phone “so good you’ll regret not owning it.”
Display Rivaling the iPhone 17 Pro Max
Priced at 5,699 NDT (approximately $21 million), the Magic8 Pro offers excellent value, directly competing with the Pro or Ultra models from other major brands.
The curved display and large circular camera module on the back have been staples of the Honor Magic series for years, and the Magic8 Pro continues this successful design.
A standout feature is the dual “pill-shaped” cutout for the front camera, necessary for the secure 3D facial unlock. While it’s hard to compare it directly to Apple’s Face ID, Honor’s implementation matches the iPhone 17 Pro Max in speed and recognition angles.
Following recent trends, the Magic8 Pro boasts three dust/water resistance certifications: IP68, IP69, and IP69K. This ensures complete dustproofing and resistance to submersion, high-pressure water jets, and both hot and cold water.
Technically, the 6.7-inch OLED display can reach a peak brightness of 6,000 nits for HDR content and 1,800 nits under normal conditions.
It features a 4320Hz PWM dimming technology—essential for users prone to headaches from screen flicker—and Circular Polarized light for comfortable viewing. Additional options include blue light reduction and automatic color/brightness adjustments based on the time of day.
Near-Perfect Camera System
The rear camera setup includes a 50MP main sensor, 50MP ultra-wide, and 200MP telephoto lens, along with a 50MP front camera. These specs are flagship-grade.
Compared to the iPhone 17 Pro Max, the Magic8 Pro handles lighting better in beach scenes and performs similarly in 2x zoom. Both devices capture sharp details, but Honor’s color reproduction stands out.
In low-light conditions, Honor boosts color saturation, as seen in the castle photo. However, the Pixel 10 Pro XL excels with deeper blacks and vibrant highlights.
The ultra-wide camera offers an expansive field of view and bright images. In the decorative sign photo, Honor captures a wider scene with clearer details compared to the OnePlus 15.
While Honor claims the 200MP telephoto sensor is the largest on any commercial phone, the 3.7x optical zoom falls short of current flagship standards. In beach comparisons, the Pixel 10 Pro XL zooms further, though Honor’s brightness reveals more sand details.
At 10x zoom, Honor’s HDR is more impressive, while the Pixel’s image processing yields a softer look.
In comparisons with the OnePlus 15 (using 3.5x zoom), Honor’s brightness reveals more details on the pier supports, which are barely visible in the OnePlus shot.
The selfie camera is a weak point, with less impressive skin tone and hair handling compared to the Pixel. However, Honor’s built-in editing tools, like AI object removal and Magic Color, add significant value.
Top-Tier Performance
Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and 12GB RAM, the Magic8 Pro handles demanding tasks like Destiny Rising at 60fps on max settings or 90fps on high settings.
While benchmark scores slightly trail the OnePlus 15, the Magic8 Pro still outperforms the Pixel 10 Pro XL, which uses the less powerful Tensor G5 chip.
The 100W wired charging fills the battery from 0% to 39% in 15 minutes, 70% in 30 minutes, and 100% in 50 minutes. Wireless charging is equally impressive at 80W.
The international version’s 7,100 mAh battery lost only 11% during a 3-hour YouTube test, compared to 12% for the OnePlus 15, previously the best performer.
Honor introduces an AI button on the lower right side, combining iPhone’s Camera Control and Action Button functionalities. It suggests AI services based on screen content and acts as a zoom control in the camera app.
MagicOS 10 (based on Android 16) features a translucent design with adjustable opacity, learning from Apple’s early iOS 26 mistakes.
Finally, Honor matches Google and Samsung with seven years of full updates for the Magic8 Pro, removing a major barrier for its premium devices.
While the Galaxy S26 may overshadow its launch, the Magic8 Pro’s quality remains undeniable. For those seeking an alternative to mainstream brands, it offers high-end specs at a lower price.
