Hylic’s groundbreaking solid-liquid battery production line in Jiangsu, China, marks a significant leap in energy storage technology.

China’s emerging energy market has reached a new milestone with the launch of Hylic’s first solid-liquid battery production line in Jiangsu Province. Specializing in solid-state lithium-ion battery research and development, Hylic’s facility is set to revolutionize energy storage and transportation solutions.

This state-of-the-art plant, spanning 26.4 hectares, represents a $716.6 million investment and aims to achieve a design capacity of 10 GWh. It will mass-produce advanced lithium-ion batteries tailored for energy storage and electric vehicles.

Solid-state batteries offer significantly higher energy density compared to conventional batteries, paving the way for enhanced performance.

Hylic’s batteries for light electric vehicles, such as e-bikes and electric scooters, boast an energy density of 250–300 Wh/kg. These batteries have passed rigorous durability tests, enduring 1,500 charge-discharge cycles and achieving a 100% safety rating in a 5 mm nail penetration test.

For electric cars, Hylic’s batteries deliver an impressive 360 Wh/kg energy density, with a lifespan of 1,000 charge cycles. These advancements are poised to meet the growing demands for efficiency and safety in the electric vehicle industry.

Compared to traditional LFP and NMC batteries, Hylic’s technology offers superior energy density and range, addressing key challenges in electric mobility.

Hylic’s solid-liquid batteries can extend electric vehicle range to over 1,000 km on a single charge, transforming long-distance travel.

While traditional LFP batteries offer 140–160 Wh/kg, enabling a range of 400–500 km, and premium NMC batteries provide 250–300 Wh/kg for 600–700 km, Hylic’s solid-liquid batteries surpass these limits with 360 Wh/kg, potentially doubling the range to over 1,000 km.

These batteries are not only lighter and faster-charging but also safer, with enhanced resistance to fire and explosions. For low-altitude aviation applications like eVTOLs, Hylic’s specialized batteries support a maximum discharge rate of 15C and operate in extreme temperatures ranging from -20°C to 55°C.

The Jiangsu plant’s launch signifies the integration of solid-liquid batteries into China’s large-scale energy supply chain. Globally, this technology is expected to eliminate charging infrastructure barriers, thanks to its high storage capacity and rapid charging capabilities.

In Vietnam, where electric motorcycle and car ownership is surging, Hylic’s mass production of solid-liquid batteries offers local EV manufacturers access to cutting-edge battery technology, driving innovation in the sector.
