Suzuki e-Access: Electric Scooter with 95 km Range per Charge and $2,300 Price Tag – Will It Launch in Vietnam?

Suzuki has officially launched the e-Access in India, priced at approximately $2,300, offering urban-ready features that rival those of compact CUVs like the e-segment. This makes it a compelling option for potential introduction to the Vietnamese market.

Vietnam’s electric motorcycle market is entering a clear acceleration phase, with major brands continuously making new moves. Recently, Honda officially set the selling price for the CUV e:, introduced the UC3 model, and reduced the price of the ICON e: to expand its urban customer base. In contrast, VinFast continues to update its electric motorcycle lineup with enhancements in battery technology, software, and features.

Amid this landscape, Suzuki is also joining the fray. The Japanese automaker has launched its first electric motorcycle, the e-Access, in India, priced at approximately VND 55 million. This competitive pricing, relative to the current market for affordable electric motorcycles, raises the question of whether the Suzuki e-Access could make its way to Vietnam in the near future.

The Suzuki e-Access is built on the familiar Access 125 platform, catering to daily urban commuting needs. It features the distinctive design of Indian scooters, with a compact body, slightly rounded rear, accessible riding posture, and user-friendly dimensions.

In terms of powertrain, the e-Access is equipped with a 4.1 kW electric motor and a 3.07 kWh LFP battery pack. This setup provides a maximum range of approximately 95 km on a full charge, with a top speed of 71 km/h. While these figures aren’t groundbreaking, they surpass those of the Honda CUV e: available in Vietnam.

The e-Access offers three riding modes—Eco, Ride A, and Ride B—along with a reverse mode for maneuvering in tight spaces. Standard features include a combined braking system, smart key with loss alert, USB charging port, and smartphone connectivity with Answer Back functionality for locating the vehicle in parking lots.

One standout feature is its flexible charging capability. With a fast charger, the e-Access can fully charge in approximately 2 hours and 12 minutes. Using a standard 11A household charger, the charging time from 0% to 100% is around 6 hours and 42 minutes. The battery system also includes overcharge protection for enhanced safety.

The TFT display provides comprehensive information, including speed, distance traveled, battery level, remaining range, and trip metrics. The connectivity system supports turn-by-turn navigation and real-time traffic updates, features increasingly common in new-generation electric motorcycles.

In terms of dimensions, the Suzuki e-Access has a seat height of 765 mm, slightly lower than its gasoline counterpart, and a ground clearance of 165 mm, 5 mm higher than the Access 125. The vehicle weighs 122 kg, approximately 20 kg more than the internal combustion version. The suspension consists of telescopic forks in the front and a single shock absorber in the rear, with disc brakes in the front and drum brakes in the rear. The e-Access features all-LED lighting and is available in three two-tone color options.

If introduced to Vietnam at a reasonable price and with suitable battery and charging policies, the e-Access could become a compelling option in the affordable electric motorcycle segment, particularly for customers who prioritize Japanese brands and a reliable, user-friendly experience. However, in an increasingly competitive market, the success of the Suzuki e-Access in Vietnam will heavily depend on its pricing strategy, charging infrastructure, and how the brand positions itself against established competitors with a home-field advantage.
