Comprehensive View of the Kim Đồng – Giải Phóng Underpass Project: A 778 Billion VND Endeavor Nearing Completion.

Commenced in October 2022, the construction of the Kim Đồng – Giải Phóng underpass on the Belt Road 2.5 (Hoàng Mai District, Hanoi) boasts a total investment of approximately 778 billion VND. This marks Hanoi’s fifth underpass project since 2009, following successful constructions at Kim Liên, Trung Hòa, Thanh Xuân, and Lê Văn Lương.

The approach road on Kim Đồng Street is nearly complete, with asphalt paving and installed guardrails and drainage systems. The Kim Đồng – Giải Phóng underpass spans 890 meters along Belt Road 2.5, featuring a 140-meter enclosed tunnel and a 320-meter open tunnel.

Each direction within the tunnel accommodates two 3.5-meter lanes, while outside the tunnel, there are three 3.5-meter lanes per direction. Lighting systems, traffic signs, road markings, and other safety features are being installed for a synchronized completion.

The enclosed section beneath Giải Phóng Street is nearing completion, with asphalt paving and reduced barricades along Giải Phóng Street.

The most complex segment of the project involves constructing the underpass beneath the Bắc – Nam railway at Giáp Bát Station. The final three enclosed sections are deeply situated under the railway, requiring meticulous planning and safety measures during construction.

Workers and machinery are operating at full capacity at the intersection of the underpass and the Bắc – Nam railway. The construction team is diligently working on road foundations, underground pipelines, and drainage systems.

As of now, the project has completed 90% of the work volume and is expected to open for technical traffic on February 10th.

Hanoi aims to expedite progress, striving to complete the Kim Đồng – Giải Phóng underpass before the 2026 Lunar New Year. This underpass will enhance Belt Road 2.5 and improve connectivity among inner-city districts such as Thanh Xuân, Hoàng Mai, and Hai Bà Trưng.

Upon completion, the Kim Đồng – Giải Phóng underpass is anticipated to alleviate traffic congestion at this frequently gridlocked intersection, especially during peak hours. It will also enhance traffic flow on the belt road and connected routes in southern Hanoi.
