Foreign Block Reverses to Sell on VN-Index Record Day, Contrasting with Over 500 Billion VND Inflow into a Banking Stock

In today’s sell-off, GMD topped the list of stocks heavily offloaded by foreign investors, recording a net outflow of approximately VND 252 billion.

The VN-Index continues its remarkable ascent, trading at historic highs. Closing the session on January 13th, the VN-Index surged nearly 26 points, surpassing the 1,900-point milestone for the first time ever. Market liquidity was robust, with trading value on HoSE reaching a substantial 40 trillion VND.

Amidst this bullish backdrop, foreign investors shifted to net selling, offloading approximately 600 billion VND across the market, ending a four-session buying streak. Here’s a breakdown:

On HoSE, foreign investors net sold approximately 489 billion VND

On the selling side, GMD led the net selling list with a value of around 252 billion VND. SHB followed with 185 billion VND, alongside VRE (-137 billion VND) and ACB (-134 billion VND). STB also made it to the top 5 with net selling of approximately 105 billion VND.

Conversely, foreign capital flowed predominantly into banking stocks. VCB topped the buying list with a net purchase of around 507 billion VND, significantly outpacing others. The next in line were VPB (201 billion VND), BID (165 billion VND), VIX (134 billion VND), and BSR (72 billion VND).

On HNX, foreign investors net sold nearly 47 billion VND

On the selling side, MBS saw the highest net selling at approximately 57 billion VND. Other top net-sold stocks included VFS (-3 billion VND), IVS (-3 billion VND), SHS (-2 billion VND), and PVI (-1 billion VND).

On the buying side, purchasing activity was more dispersed. CEO led with a net buy of around 5 billion VND, followed by IDC (4 billion VND), TNG (4 billion VND), PVS (4 billion VND), and NTP (3 billion VND).

On UPCOM, foreign investors net sold approximately 60 billion VND

On the selling side, ACV dominated with net selling of around 61 billion VND. Other top net-sold stocks were VEA (-3 billion VND), DGT (-2 billion VND), MRF (-1 billion VND), and GCF (-1 billion VND).

On the buying side, net purchases on UPCOM were modest. QNS and F88 were both net bought at around 4 billion VND each. NDC, PAT, and VEF also saw minor net buying activity.
