After reviewing the case file, court testimonies, and the prosecution’s opinion, the judges sentenced Chau to 20 years in prison for “Breach of Trust to Appropriate Assets” and life imprisonment for “Embezzlement.” The total sentence is life imprisonment.
According to the indictment, from July 2017 to August 2023, Hoang Thi Kim Chau served as general director and later deputy general director of Bach Dat An Joint Stock Company, directly managing the company’s cash flow.
Exploiting her position and financial management responsibilities, Chau repeatedly withdrew funds under personal advances but failed to repay them, using the money for personal purposes.
Prosecutors determined that Chau misappropriated over 774 billion VND. The funds were used to invest in and purchase numerous properties in Danang and Ho Chi Minh City, including dozens of apartments, land plots, and commercial projects, some registered under her name or others’ names.
The court ruled that Chau’s actions were particularly severe, involving prolonged criminal activity and an exceptionally large sum of money, causing significant harm to the company and disrupting economic management.
Despite Chau’s denial of the charges, evidence, accounting records, and testimonies from related parties provided sufficient grounds to establish her misuse of trust and position to embezzle assets.
Regarding civil liability, the court ordered Chau to fully compensate the misappropriated amount. Seized assets will be processed according to regulations to ensure enforcement of the judgment.
