What Does the Kia Tasman Offer?

The Kia Tasman was officially unveiled by the South Korean automaker in October 2024, marking Kia’s entry into the mid-size pickup truck segment. It has already been launched in markets such as South Korea, Australia, Africa, the Middle East, and several Southeast Asian countries.

Technically, the Kia Tasman is built on a traditional body-on-frame chassis, emphasizing cargo capacity and off-road performance. In its double-cab configuration, the vehicle measures 5,410mm in length, 1,930mm in width, and 1,870mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,270mm. The X-Pro variant stands slightly taller at 1,920mm and offers a ground clearance of 252mm, ideal for off-road adventures.

The rear cargo bed has a volume of 1,173 liters, catering to the hauling needs of a mid-size pickup. Kia has incorporated a sliding bed floor to facilitate loading and unloading, along with integrated lighting and a 240V or 220V AC power outlet. The Tasman boasts a payload capacity of over 1 ton and a maximum towing capacity of 3.5 tons, rivaling segment leaders.

However, the exterior design of the Kia Tasman has received mixed reviews in international markets, with the absence of side steps being a notable drawback. Photo: Drive

Off-road capabilities are a key focus for Kia. The Tasman can wade through water depths of up to 800mm at low speeds, thanks to its high-mounted air intake and waterproof interior solutions, ensuring durability in harsh conditions.

Depending on the market, the 2025 Kia Tasman offers various engine options. Notably, the 2.5L I4 gasoline engine delivers 281 horsepower and 421Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. This setup enables a 0–100km/h acceleration time of around 8.5 seconds and a top speed of 185km/h.

Highlights include dual 12.3-inch screens and a 5-inch climate control panel similar to the Sportage and Sorento. Additionally, Kia offers a 2.2L turbocharged diesel engine producing 210 horsepower and 441Nm of torque, available with either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. The manual variant achieves an average fuel efficiency of 7.5 L/100km, catering to long-haul and heavy-duty users.

In terms of drivetrain, the standard Kia Tasman offers rear-wheel or all-wheel drive options, while the X-Pro comes exclusively with all-wheel drive. The vehicle features three driving modes—Eco, Smart, and Sport—along with terrain modes for Sand/Desert, Mud, and Snow. The X-Pro adds a Rock mode for navigating rocky terrains.

The Tasman’s smooth ride is highly regarded, though Drive notes it may lack the aggressive edge of the Raptor. Photo: Drive
