Mitsubishi Sets Monthly Sales Record, Tops Gasoline/Diesel Car Sales Chart

According to data from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA), Mitsubishi delivered 8,960 vehicles to customers in December 2025. This marks the highest monthly sales figure for the brand since its entry into the Vietnamese market 31 years ago.

With this achievement, Mitsubishi also claimed the top spot in gasoline/diesel vehicle sales for the month, surpassing even Toyota (8,329 units), a brand that typically dominates the internal combustion engine segment. Following Mitsubishi in the sales rankings were Hyundai with 6,704 units and Ford with 6,142 units (excluding electric vehicles).

The best-selling model in December 2025 was the Xforce, with 3,163 units sold, outperforming even the Xpander (2,575 units). This is a rare occurrence where a Mitsubishi SUV has outsold the Xpander, a MPV that has been the brand’s top contributor to overall sales for many years. Additionally, the newly launched Destinator made a significant impact with 2,377 units sold.

For the entire year of 2025, Mitsubishi recorded sales of 44,107 units, a 7% increase compared to the previous year. This is the highest annual sales figure for the brand since its establishment in the Vietnamese market in 1994.

Despite topping the gasoline/diesel sales chart in December, Mitsubishi still trailed behind Toyota (71,954 units) in annual sales. The brand also sold fewer units than Hyundai (53,229 units) and Ford (50,449 units) (excluding electric vehicles). However, with the introduction of the Destinator, Mitsubishi is well-positioned to shift the market dynamics in 2026.

Mitsubishi Places Three Models in Top 5 Best-Sellers for the First Time

Mitsubishi’s shift from relying on a single flagship model (Xpander) to a diverse product lineup has yielded positive results. In December, for the first time, Mitsubishi had three models—Xpander, Xforce, and Destinator—in the top 5 best-selling internal combustion engine vehicles.

While the Xpander and Xforce continued to lead their respective segments, the Destinator impressed by closely trailing the CX-5, a model in the same segment and price range.

The 7-seater Destinator SUV also set a record as the fastest model to enter the top 5 best-sellers and achieved the highest launch sales for Mitsubishi in Vietnam. The Destinator’s initial success highlights its appeal and rapid market penetration in the family vehicle segment.

In Vietnam, the Destinator is offered in two variants: Premium (780 million VND) and Ultimate (855 million VND). In December, the brand offered promotional prices of 739 million and 808 million VND, respectively, representing direct discounts of 41-47 million VND. These prices are highly competitive compared to rivals like the CX-5, Territory, Tucson, and Sportage, especially considering the Destinator’s 7-seat capacity.

Xforce Sets Monthly Sales Record

In the compact segment, the Xforce recorded its most explosive sales month since its launch, with 3,163 units sold in December. This marks the first time the model has surpassed 3,000 units in a single month after nearly two years on the market and its first time as the best-selling gasoline/diesel vehicle overall.

The Xforce’s success is further evidenced by its cumulative sales, maintaining its position as the best-selling B-segment SUV/crossover for two consecutive years (2024-2025) with a total of 15,254 units sold last year, outperforming the Yaris Cross (14,601 units). The Xforce’s comeback against the Yaris Cross was fueled by its strong December sales.

Xpander Reigns as Best-Selling Gasoline/Diesel MPV for the 7th Consecutive Year

Despite market fluctuations, the Xpander remained a pillar of strength with 2,575 units sold in December. For the entire year of 2025, the Xpander achieved 19,891 units, leading the overall internal combustion engine market for the third consecutive year. Notably, the model has held the top position in the MPV segment for an impressive seven consecutive years.

The appeal of the Xforce and Xpander duo stems not only from their competitive pricing and features but also from aggressive promotional campaigns. The most notable offer is the 100% registration fee support along with valuable gift packages from the brand. This campaign will continue into early 2026, putting significant pressure on competitors in the coming period.
