Ho Chi Minh City has selected Sun Group’s subsidiary, Vung Tau Sun Company Limited, as the investor for this project. It stands as the largest investment among the four key infrastructure and transportation projects inaugurated on January 15, 2026, in Ho Chi Minh City, celebrating the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam. These projects include: Rach Chiec National Sports Complex, Metro Line No. 2 (Ben Thanh – Tham Luong), Can Gio Bridge, and Phu My 2 Bridge.

According to Decision No. 269/QD-UBND dated January 13, 2026, issued by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, the project is expected to span approximately 8 years from the signing of the BT contract. However, given its role as a pivotal infrastructure project and its potential to drive new development for the city, both Ho Chi Minh City and the investor are committed to accelerating land clearance, synchronizing construction efforts, and aiming to complete the entire complex within 5 years.

The stadium features a soundproof roof and climate control, accommodating 70,000 spectators.

As planned, the Rach Chiec National Sports Complex covers a total area of over 186.78 hectares. The central stadium, a key component, spans 24 hectares with a total investment of VND 35,000 billion, seating 70,000 spectators.

The stadium is designed with a flexible roof system capable of automatic opening and closing, integrated with advanced soundproofing solutions and a state-of-the-art climate control system that adjusts temperatures across different spectator areas. This modern design and equipment enable the stadium to host not only international sporting events but also transform into a multifunctional venue for large-scale concerts and world-class entertainment programs.

Internationally, Rach Chiec Stadium surpasses regional counterparts like Kai Tak Stadium in Hong Kong (50,000 seats) and Singapore National Stadium (55,000 seats) in both scale and technology. Compared to open-air stadiums, it rivals global icons such as Wembley Stadium in London (90,000 seats), the revered home of English football, and the “Bird’s Nest” in Beijing (approximately 80,000 seats).

A multifunctional complex capable of hosting 90% of Olympic sports.

The Rach Chiec National Sports Complex is also envisioned as a multifunctional sports hub, capable of meeting the competition, training, and performance needs for approximately 90% of Olympic sports.

In addition to the central stadium, the complex includes indoor sports arenas and centers equipped with modern climate control systems that adjust temperatures across spectator areas. Specifically, the Multipurpose Arena and Performance Center covers 10 hectares, seating around 18,000 spectators, and serves indoor sports, artistic performances, entertainment programs, and comprehensive events. The Multipurpose Sports Center, with a capacity of 5,000 to 10,000 seats, supports multiple sports competitions, training, and grassroots sports events. The International Standard Aquatic Center meets global standards for swimming, diving, and water polo. The Tennis Center facilitates professional competitions and training. Additionally, the Training and Coaching Center focuses on coaching, competition preparation, and auxiliary fields.

Furthermore, the community sports complex and service areas for athletes, coaches, and sports medicine expand Rach Chiec’s role from a professional competition center to an urban sports and entertainment space, fostering a closed-loop ecosystem for training, competition, and rehabilitation. The development of public sports areas enhances community access to health and entertainment services, improving quality of life, reducing stress, and boosting physical and mental well-being.

A new conference hub for Ho Chi Minh City.

Alongside sports facilities, the project dedicates significant land to public spaces and urban services. Public parks, extended plazas, and interconnected functional areas create ecological buffers and community activity spaces. With waterfront landscapes, the area will host recreational activities, community sports, outdoor events, and cultural exchanges, enhancing residents’ quality of life.

The commercial, service, and conference zone complements sports and event activities, hosting world-class artistic performances and establishing an event-based economy, night economy, and increasing tourist spending in Ho Chi Minh City.

The state-of-the-art Conference Center includes a large, modern 10,000-seat hall and multifunctional meeting rooms, meeting international standards for conferences, seminars, and forums. Adjacent high-end accommodations ensure convenient lodging for delegates, guests, experts, and tourists, directly connected to the project’s main spaces.

With such ambitious development, Rach Chiec is poised to become a “new growth pole” in eastern Ho Chi Minh City, hosting year-round elite sports events, international concerts, and cultural festivals. Alongside other national sports infrastructure projects, the Rach Chiec National Sports Complex will enhance Vietnam’s sports infrastructure, laying the groundwork for hosting major events like the World Cup or Olympics in the future.
