Vietnam’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAAV) has issued a directive to the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) and the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), instructing them to implement a plan for night flight operations at six airports. This initiative aims to accommodate the surge in travel demand during the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday and the Spring Festival in 2026.
The plan will be effective from February 1 to March 1. Specifically, Tho Xuan Airport (Thanh Hoa) will adjust its operating hours from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM to 6:00 AM the previous day until 2:40 AM the following day.
Dong Hoi Airport will shift from 6:00 AM – 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM the previous day until 4:30 AM the next day; Chu Lai Airport will change from 6:00 AM – 9:00 PM to 24-hour operations; Phu Cat Airport will adjust from 6:00 AM – 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM the previous day until 1:05 AM the following day; and both Pleiku and Tuy Hoa Airports will extend their hours from 6:00 AM – 9:00 PM to 24-hour operations.

Vietnam Airlines has also launched an additional 60,000 seats across nearly 300 flights, focusing on the peak period from February 9 to March 3 (December 22 to January 15 in the lunar calendar).
These additional flights primarily serve high-demand routes from Ho Chi Minh City to destinations such as Hanoi, Vinh, Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, Da Nang, Hue, Chu Lai, Buon Ma Thuot, Pleiku, Tuy Hoa, Quy Nhon, and Phu Quoc. Furthermore, the airline has introduced four new routes from Hai Phong to Nha Trang, Can Tho, Buon Ma Thuot, and Phu Quoc.
Previously, Vietnam Airlines Group (comprising Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines, and VASCO) had already released over 3.5 million seats for the period from February 3 to March 2, marking a nearly 20% increase compared to the same period last year. In the market, Vietjet has also offered approximately 2.5 million domestic tickets starting from 610,000 VND per leg (excluding taxes and fees) for short-haul routes.
Market surveys indicate that for the “golden route” between Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi during the Tet holiday from February 14 to 22 (December 27 to January 6 in the lunar calendar), round-trip economy class tickets on Vietnam Airlines fluctuate around 7.5 million VND, while business class tickets can reach up to nearly 19.6 million VND. For the same route, Vietjet offers economy class tickets starting from approximately 7.1 million VND round-trip, with business class tickets nearing 16.4 million VND.
In addition to air travel, the railway sector has also decided to increase train services before and after Tet.
Specifically, on the Ho Chi Minh City – Hanoi route, the railway will operate an additional SE24 train departing from Saigon Station on February 4. The Ho Chi Minh City – Vinh route and its return will be supplemented by train SE14 departing from Saigon Station on February 15 and train SE13 departing from Vinh Station on February 19 and 27. For the Ho Chi Minh City – Quang Ngai route, train SE26 will be added, departing from Saigon Station on February 15.

Moreover, shuttle trains will be organized to and from stations like Nha Trang, Tam Ky, Da Nang, and others during the pre-Tet and Tet periods.
According to the Saigon Railway Transport Branch, the highest Tet train ticket price this year is for the first-class sleeper in the middle compartment on train SE22 from Saigon to Da Nang, at approximately 3.7 million VND per ticket. The lowest price is on train SE24 from Saigon to Hanoi, at around 2.36 million VND. For passengers opting for VIP compartments, tickets for train SE2 from Saigon to Hanoi with two berths cost over 7.3 million VND per berth. For shorter routes, soft seat tickets range from 600,000 to 900,000 VND.
Compared to last year, Tet train ticket prices have increased by an average of 5-10%, primarily during peak days or for certain high-demand seats. Many routes and time slots maintain lower prices to provide more options for passengers. The railway sector has added approximately 150 new carriages for the Tet period to increase seating capacity and enhance service quality for passengers.
As of late December 2025, approximately 140,000 Tet train tickets have been sold. Of these, 67% were purchased online, while the remaining 33% were bought directly at station ticket counters.
