As of January 17th, Vietjet has added a total of 2,180 flights, offering nearly 500,000 seats for the Lunar New Year travel season.
A Vietjet representative stated that these additional flights aim to cater to the increased demand for travel during the holiday, allowing people to return home, visit family, and explore destinations across Vietnam and internationally.
The extra flights primarily focus on high-demand routes connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Hanoi, Da Nang, Thanh Hoa, Vinh, Chu Lai, Hai Phong, Hue, Quy Nhon, and Dong Hoi before Tet, with return flights after the holiday. This helps alleviate congestion and meet the peak travel demands.
Vietnam Airlines also joined in increasing capacity, announcing on January 14th the addition of 60,000 seats across nearly 300 flights during the peak period from February 9th to March 3rd (December 22nd to January 15th in the lunar calendar), to serve passengers nationwide.
The routes with increased capacity mainly depart from Ho Chi Minh City, including: Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi, Vinh, Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, Da Nang, Hue, Chu Lai, Buon Ma Thuot, Pleiku, Tuy Hoa, Quy Nhon, and Phu Quoc.
Additionally, Vietnam Airlines introduced four new routes from Hai Phong: Hai Phong to Nha Trang, Can Tho, Buon Ma Thuot, and Phu Quoc, diversifying travel options and reducing pressure on trunk routes during the Tet peak.
During this busy period, Vietnam Airlines advises passengers to plan ahead, book tickets early through their website, mobile app, or official ticket offices and agents. Passengers are also encouraged to check in online within 24 hours before departure via the website, mobile app, VNeID, hotline, or airport self-service kiosks.
By now, airlines have added over 2,750 flights with more than 573,000 seats for the 2026 Lunar New Year. This marks an unprecedented scale of seat additions by Vietnamese carriers.
Passengers are encouraged to use biometric technology during check-in to reduce waiting times. Those who have completed online check-in or biometric verification without checked baggage can proceed directly to security screening, helping ease airport congestion during peak hours.
Previously, Vietnam Airlines added nearly 270 flights with around 45,000 seats. In total, Vietnam Airlines has added nearly 570 flights with over 105,000 seats.

Increased Flights, Prices, and Ticket Availability: What’s the Situation?
A survey by VTC News on January 17th revealed that the previous “sold-out” situation has eased, with prices slightly lower than the previous week.
Specifically, a one-way ticket from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi on Vietjet for February 13th (26th day of the lunar month) costs 3.45 million VND, a 300,000 VND decrease from the previous week. Vietravel Airlines offers tickets at 3.8 million VND, while Bamboo Airways, Sun Phú Quốc Airways, and Vietnam Airlines range from 3.7 to 3.9 million VND, a 200,000 to 300,000 VND reduction.
These prices are 300,000 to 500,000 VND higher than off-peak rates.
In contrast, post-Tet flights from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City have no economy seats left, only business class. Bamboo Airways offers the lowest price at 8.7 million VND, while Vietnam Airlines has the highest at 9.92 million VND, similar to the previous week. Sun Phú Quốc Airways offers tickets at 9.57 million VND (a 400,000 VND decrease), and Vietjet Air has no available information.
A round-trip ticket from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi in economy class costs 3.45 million VND one way and 8.7 million VND for the return, totaling around 12 million VND.
Other popular routes also have high prices, with many flights already sold out.
For instance, Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang tickets range from 3.7 to 4.4 million VND one way, with limited availability. Prices have increased by 400,000 to 700,000 VND compared to the previous week. Business class tickets cost up to 5.22 million VND one way.
Flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Quy Nhon and Buon Ma Thuot are sold out.
Previously sold-out flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Hai Phong (February 11th-15th, 24th-28th day of the lunar month) now have ample availability at reasonable prices. Vietjet Air offers tickets from 3.2 million VND, while Vietnam Airlines and Bamboo Airways range from 3.5 million VND.
Similarly, Ho Chi Minh City to Thanh Hoa flights, previously sold out, now have plenty of seats at affordable prices. Vietjet offers tickets at 3.75 million VND, a 1.2 million VND decrease from the previous week. Bamboo Airways and Vietnam Airlines range from 3.85 to 4 million VND.
Ho Chi Minh City to Nghe An flights, previously sold out, now have many available seats at reasonable prices. Vietjet Air, Vietravel Airlines, and Bamboo Airways offer tickets from 3.1 to 3.5 million VND, while Vietnam Airlines starts at 3.8 million VND.
Aviation expert Nguyen Thien Tong noted that increasing flights and reducing prices align with current trends. If demand is high and seats are filled, even lower prices can ensure profitability for airlines.
“Conversely, if tickets are scarce and prices soar, passengers may opt for alternative transportation or change their plans, impacting airline operations,” said Nguyen Thien Tong.
