On January 30th, construction crews began repairing the expansion joints on Phu Cuong Bridge, following a warning notice issued by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction.
Spanning the Saigon River, Phu Cuong Bridge connects Binh My Commune (formerly part of Cu Chi District, Ho Chi Minh City) and Thu Dau Mot Ward (formerly part of Thu Dau Mot City, Binh Duong Province), now both located within Ho Chi Minh City.
Repairing expansion joints on Phu Cuong Bridge
The bridge links Provincial Road 8 (Binh My Commune) with Huynh Van Cu Street (Thu Dau Mot Ward), serving as a northern gateway to Ho Chi Minh City. It is a vital transportation route connecting the western provinces.
Due to severe damage and subsidence of the expansion joints, which posed significant traffic safety risks, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction reported these issues to the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, highlighting the challenges faced by commuters on Phu Cuong Bridge (Thu Dau Mot Ward and Binh My Commune).
Warning signs installed to alert vehicles during transit
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, the toll booth at Phu Cuong Bridge is positioned relatively close to the bridge, forcing vehicles to reduce speed when descending or ascending the bridge.
Additionally, the toll area on Huynh Van Cu Street in Thu Dau Mot Ward features a median opening at the intersection with Nguyen Van Cu Street, leading to vehicles turning left into Nguyen Van Cu Street after passing through the toll booth.
Vehicles traveling from the service road (toward Bach Dang Park) to the toll booth often turn around to access Phu Cuong Bridge or turn left onto Nguyen Van Cu Street, causing traffic conflicts and intersections.
