Long Thanh International Airport Project is a key national infrastructure project with a total investment of approximately $16 billion. Once completed, it will become Vietnam’s largest airport. The Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), one of the project’s key executors, envisions Long Thanh as a major regional transit hub, competing with leading airports like Singapore’s Changi and Thailand’s Suvarnabhumi.

Currently, Phase 1 is underway, comprising four key components. According to the Ministry of Construction, construction progress aligns closely with the plan, ensuring completion and operation by June 2026.

For Component 1, all six government agency headquarters are now complete. The Customs Department (Ministry of Finance) has finalized construction and obtained fire safety and completion approvals. The remaining five buildings are undergoing final inspections, scheduled for completion in January and February 2026.

Component 2’s air traffic management facilities, including the control tower, technical building, VIP lounge, and power house, were completed by December 19, 2025. Contractors are now installing electrical systems, fire safety measures, and tunnel cabling, expected to finish by February 2026.

Essential air traffic systems (primary/secondary radars, radio stations, and meteorological equipment) are nearly installed. Trial operations are set for April 2026, with VATM overseeing final preparations.

Component 3, the most critical part of Phase 1, has completed 3 out of 15 packages. The Ministry of Construction confirms 10 remaining packages are on track for June 2026. ACV is accelerating work on key packages (4.8, internal transport; 5.10, passenger terminal) by deploying additional labor and equipment.

During a January inspection, ACV Deputy Director Nguyen Tien Viet stated, “All packages are under simultaneous construction with 15,000 workers and 3,000 machines. Our goal is commercial operation by June 2026.”

Component 4’s support facilities, including catering services and maintenance hangars, are progressing on schedule for June 2026 completion.
