Investment of nearly 9,200 billion VND for Trà Vinh coastal corridor construction

The Prime Minister has just approved the proposal for the "Construction of a coastal corridor in Trà Vinh province". The project is under the management of the People's Committee of Trà Vinh province, with a total estimated investment of nearly 9,187 billion VND; of which, the loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is over 6,716 billion VND, and Trà Vinh province will contribute over 2,470 billion VND.

The project aims to build and complete the coastal road corridor in Trà Vinh province, with a scale of a grade III road consisting of 2 lanes connecting to the coastal road in Bến Tre province through the direction of Cung Hầu bridge and Cổ Chiên 2 bridge, and also connecting to Sóc Trăng province via Đại Ngãi bridge, with a total length of about 60.7 km; of which 56.1 km is a grade III road in the delta, 33 permanent reinforced concrete bridges along the route, and Cung Hầu bridge, the connecting road to Cổ Chiên 2 bridge with a total length of 4.6 km.

In addition, the project also enhances the project management capability, planning, management of economic corridors along the project roads to shift the economic structure towards green economy, adaptable to climate change in line with the Paris commitment; enhances awareness of climate change, traffic safety, and maintenance for the local community.

The Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Planning and Investment to take responsibility within its jurisdiction to report on the contents, proposals, and recommendations in accordance with the current laws and regulations; at the same time, inform ADB about the project proposal approved by the Prime Minister.

The People’s Committee of Trà Vinh province shall take into account the opinions of the Ministry of Planning and Investment and relevant agencies, coordinate with ADB to prepare the feasibility study report of the project as a basis for further implementation as prescribed. At the same time, be responsible for the legality before the law and the Prime Minister, inspection and audit agencies regarding the effectiveness of the project; accuracy of information, report data, project proposal content; carry out the project publicly, transparently, avoiding losses, wastefulness, and in accordance with current laws and regulations; allocate sufficient and timely counterpart funds and complete the project according to the approved schedule.

Trà Vinh has a coastline of over 65 km; 5 out of 9 district-level administrative units are located along the coast with a total area of ​​over 1,500 km2. The province has the Định An Economic Zone with a planned area of ​​39,020 ha, which is one of the 8 key coastal economic zones in the country that the central government invests in to exploit the marine economic potentials. The locality also has a route for large ships to enter the Hậu River, Định An Integrated Port as a prelude to promote the development of the maritime economy, becoming a trade center of the Mekong Delta. In addition, the province has the Duyên Hai Power Center with a total capacity of 4,490 MW and many wind and solar power projects, which are very favorable for the development of the maritime economy.

The Chairman of the People’s Committee of Trà Vinh province, Lê Văn Hẳn, stated that during the period of 2022-2030, Trà Vinh province will implement the Sustainable Marine Economy Development Project, with the goal of becoming one of the key provinces for marine economic development in the Mekong Delta region by 2030. By 2025, the value of production in the coastal districts and towns will contribute about 70-75% of the total value of production of the whole province; The average income per capita in these localities will be 1.2 times higher than the average income of the province; Annual average tourism growth rate will be 15%, accounting for 10% of the entire industry by 2025.

By 2025, the province will have basically completed the synchronous connection of functional areas, completed the overall adjustment of the general construction planning of Định An Economic Zone; The value of industrial production in Định An Economic Zone will account for about 50% of the total value of industrial production of the province.
