On March 14th, at the construction site of Long Thanh International Airport (LTIA), Vietnam Airport Corporation (ACV) and a consortium of contractors launched a competition to complete the construction and technical operation of the airport’s runway before April 30th, 2025.
Initiated simultaneously with the passenger terminal construction on August 31st, 2023, package 4.6 “Construction, Installation of Equipment and Preparation of Construction Design for Runway, Taxiway, Apron and Ancillary Facilities” is a crucial part directly related to the aviation operations of the airport.
Located at Long Thanh International Airport, the runway is 4,000m long, 70m wide, and capable of accommodating the most advanced aircraft. It is a prerequisite for the operation of Long Thanh International Airport to ensure safe flight operations. To implement the Prime Minister’s directions during the site inspection immediately after the Lunar New Year, ACV directed the Project Management Board to collaborate with contractors to study and apply advanced construction technologies to shorten the schedule while ensuring the quality, especially labor safety at the construction site.
ACV directed the consortium of contractors to mobilize more than 350 machinery and equipment as well as nearly 1,500 engineers and workers, making the most of the favorable weather conditions and resolutely implementing the construction. So far, the runway construction has progressed closely to the schedule, basically completing the land and sand foundation, with more than 70% of crushed stone aggregate layer finished. Currently, they are carrying out the construction of the general concrete layer to complete the runway and perform calibration flights before April 30th, 2025.
After research and consultation with project participants, ACV and the consortium of contractors launched a competition to shorten the construction schedule by 3 months compared to the contract schedule. At the same time, ensuring 10 million safe working hours, construction quality on the construction site, with the goal of completing the construction and technical operation of Long Thanh International Airport’s runway before April 30th, 2025 in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Liberation Day, Reunification Day (April 30th, 1975 – April 30th, 2025) of the Southern region.
At the launching ceremony, Mr. Vu The Phiet – General Director of ACV – requested the consortium of contractors to continue to uphold their sense of responsibility, make more efforts, unite and stand side by side to fulfill the committed goals and complete the project’s construction on schedule to ensure quality and aesthetics, thereby creating motivation to bring the whole project to the finish line on schedule, ensuring the highest security and safety with the highest quality and efficiency.
Deputy Minister of Transport Le Anh Tuan commented that the early operation of the airport would contribute to the country’s economic development and the key economic region in the South, as well as relieve the overload at Tan Son Nhat Airport.
