As we have reported, on March 19, the Hanoi City People’s Court will bring Do Anh Dung, Chairman of TAN HOANG MINH Group, and his accomplices to trial for the crime of fraudulently misappropriating assets.
In relation to the case, 6,630 investors who were identified as victims have also been summoned to court. Over 20 lawyers are participating in defending the defendants. Among them, Do Anh Dung is defended by lawyer Giang Hong Thanh, Giang Thanh Law Office, and the Hanoi Lawyers Association; defendant Do Hoang Viet is defended by lawyer Nguyen Van Tu, FANCI Law Firm.
According to the charges, through the illegal purchase and sale of 9 bonds packages, TAN HOANG MINH Company has mobilized a total amount of more than 13,972 billion VND. The investigation results show that the 9 bond packages have a term of 2-5 years, but the defendants of TAN HOANG MINH Company have divided the terms into weeks and months to sell the bonds and use the funds from the bond revenue to make payments.
The investigation results also show that TAN HOANG MINH used more than 5,165 billion VND from the funds of individuals/contractors who bought bonds later to pay those whose bonds had matured. In essence, this is a trick to attract buyers of future bond issuances.

Therefore, at the time of initiating the case, when the crime was discovered, prevented, the balance of the remaining principal debt was determined to be more than 8,643 billion VND of 6,630 investors (victims), which is the amount that the defendants misappropriated.
Before the trial, lawyer Nguyen Van Tu, who defends Do Hoang Viet (Deputy General Director of TAN HOANG MINH), said that from the investigation stage, in August 2023, in the most difficult situation, the family of Do Anh Dung and Do Hoang Viet made 100% effort to compensate the damage with an amount of about 8.6 trillion VND (deposited in the temporary custody account of Department C03).
Lawyer Nguyen Van Tu added that the Hanoi City People’s Court has received more than 1,000 requests for a reduced sentence from investors, who are also victims of the case, requesting a reduced sentence for the defendants, especially for defendants Do Hoang Viet and Do Anh Dung. In the request, the investors asked the Court, the Prosecutor’s Office to consider reducing the criminal responsibility for all the defendants.
Regarding the two defendants Do Anh Dung and Do Hoang Viet, the request for the competent authorities is to consider applying a special leniency policy because the two individuals have made 100% effort to fully compensate the amount that investors deposited in the State Treasury account in a short time, which has relieved the anxiety of the investors…
