Mr. Nguyen Van Vinh, Director of the Ninh Thuan Department of Transport, told Giao thong newspaper on April 16 that the Cam Lam – Vinh Hao expressway has basically been completed and is ready for traffic. To ensure traffic safety, the working group has asked the investor to add more road signs at the two Phan Rang junctions on QL27 and the Du Long junction with QL1.
“The traffic organization plan and the addition of traffic signs and direction signs will be completed before April 21, before the opening day,” Vinh added.
The Cam Lam – Vinh Hao expressway is one of 3 expressway projects in the first phase of the North-South Expressway, with a length of 78.5 km. The expressway passes through 3 provinces: Khanh Hoa (nearly 5 km), Ninh Thuan (63 km), Binh Thuan (nearly 12 km) and is invested by a joint venture between Deo Ca Group – Company 194. The project has a total investment of over VND 8,925 billion, the implementation period is 24 months, and the Vung mountain tunnel item is 30 months, and is expected to open to traffic on the occasion of April 30 – May 1 this year.
The route has a total of 34 bridges, including 22 bridges on the expressway, 11 overpasses and one bridge connecting the expressway with National Highway 1A, designed according to the design standards of Vietnamese expressways, with a maximum allowable speed of 90km/h.
In which, Vung mountain tunnel has a length of 2.2km, a scale of 3 lanes, and a tunnel width of 14m. Upon completion, this will be the 4th longest tunnel in the country after Hai Van, Deo Ca and Cu Mong tunnels. The tunnel has been excavated through 2 branches since August 2023. In phase 1, the tunnel will only operate the right branch. The left tunnel is used for evacuation and rescue in emergency situations.
The Cam Lam – Vinh Hao expressway passing through Ninh Thuan province has 2 important interchanges: the Phan Rang – Thap Cham city interchange in Ninh Son district and the Du Long interchange on National Highway 1A in Thuan Bac district.
What is special is that the expressway section in the north of Ninh Thuan province runs through many wind and solar power fields in Thuan Bac mountainous district, creating an impressive view for this expressway section.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Vinh, the expressway passing through the province has a length of 63km, including 3 interchanges, which will significantly reduce the journey and travel time from Ho Chi Minh City to Ninh Thuan and vice versa. Previously, it took 8 hours to get from Ninh Thuan to Ho Chi Minh City, after the opening it will be shortened by about half to about 3.5 – 4 hours.
Besides, when put into operation, the Cam Lam – Vinh Hao section will help connect Nha Trang to Ho Chi Minh City by expressway, through the routes Vinh Hao – Phan Thiet, Phan Thiet – Dau Giay, Dau Giay – Long Thanh – Ho Chi Minh City in the south. The route helps to shorten the travel time from Nha Trang to Ho Chi Minh City to 4-5 hours, half of the time it takes to travel on National Highway 1.
Thousands of workers and engineers bring the expressway to the finish line
To be able to finish ahead of schedule, thousands of workers and engineers were mobilized to work day and night. According to information on Thanh Nien, in order to implement the section KM54+000-Km 92+260, after the groundbreaking ceremony, the investor, Company 194, mobilized 600 workers and engineers along with vehicles and equipment to work day and night. deploy 35 construction teams, including: 15 road construction teams, 14 bridge construction teams; 3 ITS system construction teams, 3 lighting construction teams, 5 construction teams for traffic safety systems, ATGT (Fences, railings, median strips).

The implementation process of the Cam Lam – Vinh Hao project faced both weak geological problems at the south of Nui Vung tunnel when it was not predicted by the consulting unit in the technical design, resulting in a 2/3 reduction in tunnel digging speed.
Faced with the risk of delaying the project, Cam Lam – Vinh Hao Expressway Joint Stock Company many times reported to the Ministry of Transport to propose adjusting the design documents in accordance with the actual geological conditions, inviting representatives of the State Inspection Council, Project Management Board 85, technical design, experts to participate in appraisal and find solutions.
Mr. Dang Tien Thang – Deputy Director of the company shared in the Communist Party newspaper that the Deo Ca investor has researched and applied the method of digging the upper half of the tunnel, while combining arching in reverse, temporarily supporting the structure during construction, monitoring deformation 2 hours/hour. measuring time, construction 24/7. This unit also strengthened the organization of construction teams in the North of the tunnel to compensate for the progress.
Thanks to the professionalism of the experienced investor, a huge amount of work with many difficulties has been completed and processed to bring the project to the finish line on the occasion of the April 30-May 1 holiday, when people are moving. increased dramatically.
