3 Former Quảng Nam Education Department Directors Indicted on Bribery Charges

In a major development, police in Quang Nam province have arrested and detained three former heads of education departments in Tay Giang, Nam Giang, and Bac Tra My districts for allegedly taking bribes.

Quang Nam Provincial Police Agency issued decisions for 3 suspects

According to information from Quang Nam Provincial Police, expanding the investigation into the case of “giving bribes, receiving bribes” that occurred at the Department of Education and Training of Tay Giang, Nam Giang, Bac Tra My districts, on April 11, the Department of Investigation Police on corruption, economy, smuggling, and environment of Quang Nam Provincial Police issued the Decision to prosecute and execute the Arrest Warrant for temporary detention of 03 former Heads of the Department of Education and Training of Tay Giang, Nam Giang, Bac Tra My districts to investigate the act of “receiving bribes”.

The suspects include: Le Kim Van, former Head of the Department of Education and Training of Tay Giang district; Nguyen Tan Loc, Head of the Office of Nam Giang District Party Committee, former Head of the Department of Education and Training of Nam Giang district; and Nguyen Thanh Tung, Chairman of the Labor Federation of Bac Tra My district, former Head of the Department of Education and Training of Bac Tra My district, who were charged with the crime of “receiving bribes”.

Previously, in December 2022, the Investigation Police Agency of Quang Nam Provincial Police prosecuted 3 suspects, including Nguyen Van Quoc, Director of Nông Tri Phat Company Limited and Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy – Director of Viet Com Telecommunication Informatics Company Limited for the crime of “giving bribes” and Nguyen Duc Thuan, former accountant of the Department of Education and Training of Tay Giang district for the crime of “receiving bribes”.

According to the investigation, from 2019-2020, the Departments of Education and Training of Nam Giang, Tay Giang, and Bac Tra My districts were assigned to be the investors of the bidding packages for the purchase of educational equipment.

During the process of organizing and implementing the bidding packages, the subjects Le Kim Van, Nguyen Tan Loc, and Nguyen Thanh Tung abused their positions and powers, negotiated and received money from the suspect Nguyen Van Quoc to commit violations of the law on bidding in order to facilitate Quoc to win the above-mentioned bidding packages.

The case is currently under further investigation.
