On April 19, at the 18th Meeting (special meeting) of the Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Council, term XIV, 2021-2026, approved the Resolution to establish Dong Trieu City directly under Quang Ninh Province.
Quang Ninh will have the 5th city, Dong Trieu City.
Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Council also agreed on the policy of establishing the wards: Binh Duong, Thuy An, Binh Khe, Yen Duc in Dong Trieu town and establishing Dong Trieu City on the basis of the original area of more than 395km2, with the population of nearly 249,000 people in Dong Trieu town.
After the establishment, Dong Trieu City will have 21 subordinate administrative units, including 14 wards and 7 communes.
If the Standing Committee of the National Assembly approves this policy, Quang Ninh will have 5 centrally-run cities including Ha Long, Cam Pha, Uong Bi, Mong Cai, and Dong Trieu.
Nguyen Xuan Ky, Secretary of Quang Ninh Provincial Party, emphasized that considering and approving the policy of establishing wards in Dong Trieu town and establishing Dong Trieu City aims to facilitate the promotion and maximization of available potentials and advantages, accelerate the urbanization speed, develop commensurately with the geopolitical, geo-economic, cultural, social status, and suit the development status of Dong Trieu town after 9 years of establishment.
