MG to Introduce an All-Electric Vehicle in Vietnam: MG4 EV

On April 19, MG Vietnam caused a stir in the online community when it posted a new article on its fan page, including an image revealing that MG will launch an all-new electric vehicle in Vietnam.

Specifically, the company wrote: “Electric vehicles are gradually becoming a new mobility trend for intelligent people, leading to a sustainable future. What do you think if MG also brings to Vietnamese people an all-new electric vehicle? Are you curious about which electric vehicle model will be the first to be introduced by MG to the Vietnamese market? The secret will soon be revealed on the MG Vietnam Fanpage!”.

According to the above image, many people predict that this could be the MG4 EV. Previously, this model had appeared at the Vietnam Motor Show 2022. At that time, the car was brought in for display purposes for market research and was not yet for sale.

Around the beginning of 2023, MG Vietnam’s fan page also posted information about the appearance of the MG4 electric vehicle model in the country with the question “Are you looking forward to the official appearance of the MG4 EV in the Vietnamese market?”.

At that time, many MG dealers also promoted the MG4 model and revealed that the car could go on sale at the end of 2023. At this time, MG is being distributed by TC Services Vietnam.

However, the sale of MG electric cars has probably been postponed since July 2023, SAIC Motor Vietnam Co., Ltd. (SMV) under the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC Motor) has replaced TC Services Vietnam, officially taking over the exclusive distribution of MG cars as well as genuine spare parts and services related to MG vehicles in Vietnam.

It is perfectly understandable that this pure electric model from MG is being sold in Vietnam. Because currently, the trend of electric vehicle in Vietnam is taking place strongly. Many Chinese brands are also continuously planning to launch vehicles in Vietnam this year.

The MG4 has dimensions of approximately 4.287 x 1.836 x 1.504 mm, a wheelbase of 2.705 mm. The MG4 EV has a crossover design with the compact design of a 5-seater vehicle.

The front is simply designed with the highlight being the central air vents placed below the quite large MG logo. The car is equipped with 4 cameras around the car as well as supporting sensors.

The MG4 EV has 17-inch wheels with a 5-spoke design and 2-tone color. Details such as the side skirts, A, B, C pillars and mirror trim are painted in black to contrast the exterior paint color.

Regarding the interior, the car is designed with a 2-spoke steering wheel, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster subtly placed, and a large 10.25-inch touch-screen entertainment screen.

The company is also very proud of the slimness of the battery, which has a minimum capacity of only 110 mm, while the larger packs are 137 mm and 140 mm. The MG4 EV’s battery is very compact, measuring 1,300 mm wide by 1,690 mm long, incorporating CTP (Cell-To-Pack) technology and providing additional protection to prevent thermal runaway.

The MG4 EV is expected to have 2 drivetrain configurations. The standard version uses rear-wheel drive, a 51 kWh battery and a 168-horsepower electric motor, providing a maximum driving range of 350 km per charge. The higher-end version uses a 64 kWh battery and a 201-horsepower electric motor, providing a maximum driving range of 450 km per charge.

The car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.5 seconds before reaching a top speed of 161 km/h.

In terms of safety features, this model is integrated with the MG Pilot driver assistance system with many features such as collision avoidance warning, emergency lane keeping assist, drowsiness warning, etc.

In terms of charging stations, MG sales consultants once shared that if the MG4 goes on sale, the company will also sell additional chargers for plugging in at home. This approach is quite similar to that of Mercedes-Benz and Porsche in Vietnam.

If it is sold in Vietnam, it is likely that the MG4 could be imported from Thailand, similar to the MG5 and ZS5. In the Land of the Golden Pagoda, the MG4 EV has a price range of 869,000 – 9
