Mai Tien Dung, 65 years old, was a member of the Party Central Committee for two terms, 11 and 12; He used to be Chairman of the People’s Committee and Secretary of the Ha Nam Provincial Party Committee. In April 2021, he retired after a term as Minister and Chairman of the Government Office.

From the time of his retirement until his arrest, Mr. Dung had been disciplined twice. In January 2023, he was given a warning by the Politburo for his lack of responsibility in the “rescue flight” incident. A year later, Mr. Dung was reprimanded by the Politburo for his involvement in violations at the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

In Lam Dong, earlier this year, due to their involvement in the Dai Ninh Ecological Urban Commercial Resort super project, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Tran Duc Quan, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Tran Van Hiep, and Head of the Provincial Inspectorate Nguyen Ngoc Anh were arrested by the Ministry of Public Security’s Investigation Police Agency with one of the accusations of “taking advantage of position and power while performing official duties” for the others, the crime of “receiving bribes.”

Related to this case, Ms. Tran Bich Ngoc, Head of the Inspectorate Monitoring, Handling of Complaints, Accusations, Prevention and Combating of Corruption, Smuggling, Commercial Fraud and Counterfeit Goods (Department I) of the Government Office, was prosecuted for the allegation of “taking advantage of position and power while performing official duties.” The initial investigation results show that Ms. Ngoc used her work position to violate her assigned responsibilities and duties in handling the inspection and complaints about the project, causing damage to the interests of the State.
