BYD Breaks Sales Records with Impressive Numbers

The Chinese electric vehicle giant, BYD, has recently announced record-breaking sales figures. In the face of fierce competition in the electric vehicle market, BYD has set a new monthly sales record.

Specifically, BYD sold over 341,658 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in June, an all-time monthly high. On average, more than 11,000 vehicles were sold per day. The previous monthly sales record for BYD was set in December 2023, when the company sold 341,043 vehicles.

Of the 341,658 vehicles BYD sold in June, 145,179 were pure electric vehicles (EVs), a 13% increase compared to the same period last year. However, this is not the highest number of pure EVs sold by BYD in a single month. In May, BYD sold 146,395 pure electric vehicles.

For the first half of 2024, BYD has sold a total of 726,153 vehicles, an 18% increase year-over-year. Notably, BYD has consecutively broken sales records for four consecutive months, including plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Additionally, the Chinese electric vehicle giant sold 26,995 vehicles in other countries as it strives to expand its market beyond China. According to experts, the main factor contributing to BYD’s rapid sales growth is its competitive pricing compared to other automakers.

BYD Expands its Product Lineup in the Electric Vehicle Race

BYD’s sales figures are on the rise amid intense competition in the automotive market, particularly in the electric vehicle segment, in the world’s most populous country.

BYD’s most affordable electric vehicle, the Seagull, starts at just $9,700 (69,800 Chinese yuan) in China. Overseas, the same vehicle has a starting price of around $20,000. Lower-priced versions of popular models such as the Atto 3, Dolphin, and Seal are also being introduced to the market.

BYD is not only focusing on the Chinese market but is also bringing its new models to foreign markets such as Japan and South Korea, directly competing with giants like Toyota and Hyundai in their home countries.

Last week, BYD introduced its third electric vehicle in Japan, the Seal EV, with a starting price of 5.28 million yen, or approximately $33,100. Meanwhile, the Seal, touted as BYD’s “answer to the Tesla Model 3,” is expected to launch in South Korea later this year.

While BYD is known for its affordable electric vehicles, the company is also expanding its offerings to include new segments such as luxury SUVs, pickup trucks, and supercars.

According to Electrek, BYD’s new Yangwang U9 supercar was spotted testing at the Nurburgring last week. Sources suggest that the starting price of this model could be around $233,400. The Yangwang U9 is believed to be BYD’s direct competitor to supercar giants Ferrari and Lamborghini.

Additionally, BYD launched the Sea Lion 07, its first “mid-size electric SUV,” in May. With a starting price of $26,250, the new electric SUV will go head-to-head with the Tesla Model Y, which starts at $34,550 in China.
