International Arrivals to Nghe An Surge

The province of Nghe An witnessed a significant surge in tourist arrivals in the first half of 2024, recording nearly 5.5 million visitors, a remarkable 111% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Notably, international arrivals soared to 48,200, an impressive 148% increase year-over-year.

The Nghe An People’s Committee has been proactive in boosting the province’s tourism industry, evident from the early release of their 2024 tourism development plan. This strategy included collaborative efforts with local governments and domestic tourism businesses to organize travel stimulus activities and prepare for the influx of tourists. Additionally, they focused on conducting surveys to develop new tourism products and providing training sessions.

These initiatives yielded positive results, especially during the Hung King Commemoration Day and the 30th of April and May Day holidays. Nghe An experienced a significant increase in tourist arrivals, and the tourism services successfully met the rising market demand.

For the first six months of 2024, Nghe An welcomed approximately 5.5 million tourists, an 11% increase compared to the same period in 2023 and reaching 64% of the annual plan. Over 3.4 million tourists stayed overnight, a 108% year-on-year increase, and international visitors totaled 48,200, a remarkable 148% surge.

The province’s tourism revenue reached VND 16,195 billion, with an estimated tourism revenue of VND 6,257 billion, a 141% increase year-on-year and 70% of the annual plan for 2024.

For the whole of 2024, Nghe An aims to attract 5,500,000 tourists with overnight stays, a 4% increase from 2023. This includes a target of 120,000 international visitors, a 55% jump. They also plan to achieve a tourism service revenue of VND 9,000 billion, a 15% increase from the previous year.

To achieve these ambitious goals, the Nghe An tourism sector has implemented key tasks and solutions. These include accelerating the “Development of Tourism Infrastructure to Support Comprehensive Growth in the Greater Mekong Subregion, Phase 2” project and gradually establishing a master plan for the Kim Lien – Nam Dan National Tourism Area. They are also working on realizing the plan for “Conservation, Restoration, and Promotion of the Special National Relic – President Ho Chi Minh’s Hometown in Kim Lien, Linked to Tourism Development.”

Additionally, Nghe An is intensifying its efforts in tourism communication, promotion, and digital transformation. They are developing diverse tourism products that cater to new market trends and strengthening linkages and cooperation for tourism development. Support is also being provided to businesses and workers to expedite the recovery and expansion of tourism activities.

To enhance the province’s appeal, Nghe An is fostering inter-destination cooperation, particularly with provinces in the North Central region and cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. This strategic collaboration aims to integrate Nghe An into inter-provincial and inter-regional tourism products, making it a more attractive destination. The province is also focusing on connecting Vinh, Cua Lo, and Nam Dan with other tourist attractions within the province to create captivating tour packages.
