The Capital’s Sky-High Ambition: A New Perspective on Hanoi’s Future with a $730 Million River-Crossing Project.

The proposed railway bridge over the Red River is set to be a pivotal connection between Hoang Mai district and Gia Lam district in Hanoi. This strategic railway bridge will be nestled between the Thanh Tri bridge (VND 5,700 billion) and the planned Ngoc Hoi bridge (estimated at VND 11,700 billion). Upon completion, the bridge will facilitate seamless connectivity to a host of urban developments, notably including Vinhomes Ocean Park.

According to the master plan for the Urban Railway No. 8, a bridge crossing the Red River is expected to be constructed, connecting Hoang Mai district and Gia Lam district in Hanoi. What makes this bridge unique is its location between the Thanh Tri Bridge (VND 5,700 billion) and the Ngoc Hoi Bridge (part of the Ring Road 3.5, with a total planned investment of VND 11,700 billion, including the approach road).

The bridge crossing the Red River will be located in Linh Nam ward, Hoang Mai district, and Dong Du commune, Gia Lam district.

Regarding the Urban Railway No. 8, it is one of the urban railway lines in Hanoi, included in the master plan and the transport planning of the capital city until 2030, with a vision towards 2050.

This railway line has a route of approximately 37 km with 26 stations, starting from Son Dong, passing through Mai Dich, Ring Road 3, Linh Nam, and ending at Duong Xa. The section from Linh Nam to Duong Xa, including the river crossing, will be elevated, and a dedicated railway bridge over the Red River is planned as mentioned above.

In terms of location, on the Gia Lam side, the railway bridge will pass through a residential area, close to the Village 7 Cultural House.

From there, it will connect to the Ly Thanh Tong road intersection and continue straight towards the Vinhomes Ocean Park mega-urban area.

Vinhomes Ocean Park is a mega-urban project with an area of 420 hectares (4.2 km2), almost the size of Hoan Kiem district (5.29 km2). Developed by Vingroup, it comprises 66 apartment buildings and 2,390 low-rise units. Since its launch, Vinhomes Ocean Park has dramatically transformed the eastern part of Hanoi, making the real estate market in this area more vibrant than ever.

On the Hoang Mai side, the Red River bridge is expected to cross the Red River’s alluvial plain.

The route then continues along Ring Road 3 towards Linh Dam.

In Hoang Mai, the railway line also passes by another urban area, Gamuda Gardens. Developed by Gamuda Land, this 75-hectare project offers a range of products such as detached villas, terraced houses, shophouses, and apartments.

Thus, if constructed and completed, the Urban Railway No. 8 section from Linh Nam to Duong Xa will not only provide a seamless connection between Hoang Mai and Gia Lam districts but also enhance connectivity to other urban areas in Hanoi, particularly in Hoang Mai and Gia Lam.
