The Epic $470 Million Tunnel Project: A Renowned Group’s Revolutionary Venture.

The Deo Ca Tunnel is the second-largest road tunnel in Vietnam, connecting the provinces of Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa. With its early completion, a remarkable four months ahead of schedule, this engineering marvel has catalyzed a transformative impact on the project's investors, reaping savings of VND 4,000 billion.

The Deo Ca Tunnel is a remarkable feat of engineering with a total investment of over VND 11 trillion. Construction began in 2012, and the tunnel was completed and opened to traffic in September 2017. This project is a testament to the capabilities of Vietnamese enterprises, showcasing their mastery of tunnel construction technology.

The Deo Ca Tunnel project has a total length of nearly 14 km, starting from Hoa Xuan Nam commune in Dong Hoa district, Phu Yen province, and ending in Van Tho commune, Van Ninh district, Khanh Hoa province.

The entire route is divided into three sections: the Deo Ca Tunnel, which is over 4 km long, the Co Ma Tunnel at 500 m, and a 9.3 km approach road. Each section features two tunnels designed 30 m apart, with each tunnel nearly 10 m wide and accommodating two lanes, along with a safety zone and a maintenance corridor. The design speed is 80 km/h.

The Deo Ca Tunnel has shortened the travel distance by 8 km and reduced travel time by 30-35 minutes compared to the old mountain pass route. Vehicles can now pass through the tunnel quickly, safely, and conveniently.

As of July 30, 2024, nearly seven years since its opening, the Deo Ca Tunnel management unit has safely facilitated the passage of over 15.6 million vehicles. They have also provided rescue and assistance to hundreds of vehicles experiencing breakdowns or accidents and have handled dozens of traffic incidents. Notably, there have been no fire-related incidents in the tunnel during this period.

The Deo Ca Tunnel holds significant importance, boosting economic development in Phu Yen province and the country as a whole. It is a key transportation project on the vital North-South route.

Before the construction of the Deo Ca Tunnel, traveling through the Deo Ca Pass was challenging. The pass, which is 12 km long and the second-longest on National Highway 1A, features winding and dangerous curves. One side is a sheer cliff, while the other is a deep abyss, making it a hotspot for traffic accidents.

The Deo Ca Tunnel has opened up new opportunities for trade and economic development, boosting the growth of industry and tourism in the central coastal region. It has also enhanced regional connectivity, linking Phu Yen with the Van Phong economic zone, Nha Trang city, nearby industrial parks, and tourist destinations.

The Deo Ca Tunnel is the first project that established the reputation of the Deo Ca Corporation in the field of transport infrastructure investment and construction. The project was completed four months ahead of schedule and saved VND 4,000 billion compared to the initial investment.

The Deo Ca Corporation, formerly known as the Hai Thach Wood and Construction Cooperative, was established in 1985 in Phu Yen. In 2018, the company was renamed the Deo Ca Corporation following the success of the second-largest tunnel project in Vietnam.

Over the years, Deo Ca Corporation has constructed dozens of kilometers of road tunnels, including the Nui Vung Tunnel (part of the Cam Lam – Vinh Hao Expressway) and the Cu Mong Tunnel in Phu Yen province. They have also been the investors and contractors for key sections of multiple expressway projects.
