At exactly 3 pm on July 26, 2024, the funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was solemnly held at Mai Dich Cemetery, Hanoi.
Present at the funeral were Politburo members: State President To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, and Permanent Member of the Secretariat Luong Cuong. Also attending were Politburo member, Central Committee Secretary, and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Do Van Chien, along with former General Secretary Nong Duc Manh; former State Presidents Truong Tan Sang, Nguyen Xuan Phuc, and Vo Van Thuong; and former National Assembly Chairpersons Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and Vuong Dinh Hue.
Also present at the funeral were leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, and Vietnam Fatherland Front, revolutionary veterans, scholars, intellectuals, representatives of agencies, sectors, organizations, and religions, armed forces, and people from all walks of life, as well as foreign diplomatic corps and international friends.
After the honor guard performed the burial ritual, the leaders, former leaders of the Party, State, and Vietnam Fatherland Front, comrades, compatriots, international friends, and family bid farewell and laid flowers to pay their last respects to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

In deep sorrow, the leaders, former leaders of the Party, State, and Vietnam Fatherland Front, comrades, compatriots, international friends, and family observed a minute of silence to bid farewell to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, a great intellect and talent of the Vietnamese revolution, who dedicated his entire life to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.
With nearly 60 years of rich and persistent revolutionary activities, Professor and Doctor Nguyen Phu Trong, with his profound and sharp intellect, left the entire Party, people, and army with a valuable system of thoughts and theories on the Vietnamese revolutionary path in the new era. Firmly adhering to and creatively applying Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh’s thoughts, with the goals of national independence and socialism, thinker Nguyen Phu Trong, the Party’s theorist, clarified the theory of socialism and the path to socialism in Vietnam, the role of the Communist Party, and the socialist-oriented market economy…
This invaluable legacy has strengthened our firm belief in the path to socialism and made significant contributions to the development of the communist movement worldwide, promoting Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh’s thoughts in the contemporary era.
With a strategic vision of the international situation in the modern world, and through relentless efforts to maintain and ensure a peaceful and stable environment in the region and the world, he opened a new chapter in Vietnam’s relations with international partners, promoting friendship between Vietnam and other nations and enhancing Vietnam’s contributions through various practical commitments and actions, combining national strength with the power of the times to propel our country forward.
Inspiringly leading the entire Party, people, and army with his intellect, noble humanity and kindness, strong will and determination, and the character and honor of a communist soldier dedicated to serving the nation and the people, with the belief that “honor is the most sacred and precious,” the loyal leader Nguyen Phu Trong continuously built our Party to be increasingly pure and strong, leading our country and people to successfully implement the renewal policy.
In his revolutionary life, Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong attached particular importance to the work of Party and political system building and rectification. Creatively applying Ho Chi Minh’s thoughts on Party building, Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong elaborated on the Party’s nature and the building of a ruling party based on the renewal reality in Vietnam.
From there, he, together with the Central Committee, formulated and led the successful implementation of strategic orientations on Party building and rectification; resolutely and persistently fighting individualism, degeneration in political ideology, morality, and lifestyle, and corruption and negative phenomena in the Party.
This is an extremely arduous and challenging battle against “internal enemies,” making our Party increasingly pure and strong, affirming its vanguard role, intellect, and wisdom, so that our Party is truly “moral and civilized.”
Under his leadership, for the first time, our Party issued a specialized resolution on building and perfecting the Vietnamese socialist law-governed state of the people, by the people, and for the people.
As State President and National Assembly Chairman, he always pondered and cared about building a legislative body that is truly the highest power agency of the people, democratic, and representative of the rights and legitimate interests of the people; perfecting a synchronous, unified, public, transparent, and feasible legal system, creating a solid legal corridor for proactive and deep international integration and vigorous national development.
Imbued with Ho Chi Minh’s thoughts and deeply aware of the important position and role of culture, with the understanding that “culture is the soul of the nation” and “culture remains, the nation remains,” the great culturalist Nguyen Phu Trong devoted much heart and soul and made particularly important contributions to building a Vietnamese culture that is advanced, imbued with national identity, and truly the spiritual foundation of society and an important internal strength and driving force for national development.
Under his leadership, after more than 70 years, our Party held a national conference on culture, a milestone that united the thought and action of the entire Party, people, and army, strongly promoting the role of culture in realizing the aspiration to build a prosperous and happy country. With profound and sensitive political insight, he elevated strategic thinking and created a new development for Vietnam’s national defense, security, and foreign affairs.
These are thoughts about protecting the country from an early stage and from afar, preserving peace from the time of peace; always paying attention to building the people’s posture, building a revolutionary people’s army that is streamlined, strong, and truly pure and strong; the army and police united like “two wings of a bird,” like a “sword and shield,” together overcoming all difficulties and hardships, sacrificing to preserve peace and stability for national development.
Promoting the pioneering role of comprehensive diplomacy, forming and effectively leading the art of diplomacy in the new era with the imprints of the “Vietnamese bamboo tree” based on the nature of the Vietnamese people of “unchanging in nature, capable of adapting to changes,” “benevolence and harmony,” and “using morality to overcome force.”
Under his guidance, Vietnam has become a trusted partner, an active and responsible member in the international arena, deeply integrating into international politics, the world economy, and human civilization.
Running through Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong’s thoughts are the people and humanity, wholeheartedly and devotedly serving the people, building a new socialist person, and constantly consolidating unity and consensus, first and foremost, unity and consensus within the Party, national great unity, and international solidarity. He always determined to formulate and successfully implement policies that are in line with the people’s aspirations; steadfast in upholding the standpoint and view and practicing “the people are the root,” “the people are the subjects, the center of renewal.”
A true communist, full of righteousness and righteousness, always mindful and requiring the entire Party and political system to “be most responsible to the people, take care of the material and spiritual life of the people,” “closely connect with the people is the rule of existence, development, and operation of the Party, the decisive factor in creating the Party’s strength.”
Throughout his life, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong tirelessly dedicated himself to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation with an iron will and determination, never backing down in the face of adversity and challenges; devoting all his responsibility and revolutionary enthusiasm, working until his last breath, dedicating himself wholeheartedly to the Party, the country, and the people; affirming a great personality, living a whole life for the country, the Party, and the people.
He is truly a typical and exemplary model, shining with revolutionary morality, “selfless,” simple and honest lifestyle, sincere and loving humanity, democratic, dedicated, scientific, close, and resolute working style, consistent in words and deeds, respecting and loving people, very close to the people; truly a nucleus that gathers the unity and consensus of the whole Party, people, and army, respected and trusted by cadres, party members, and people, overseas Vietnamese, and highly appreciated by international friends.
Acknowledging his outstanding and excellent merits, the Party and State respectfully presented him with the Golden Star Order, the most noble reward; but more than that, he forever belongs to the country and the people.

In our infinite grief, on behalf of the Funeral Organizing Committee and the family of Comrade General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Comrade Luong Cuong, Politburo member, Permanent Member of the Secretariat, and Head of the Funeral Organizing Committee, would like to express our sincere thanks to the leaders, former leaders of the Party, State, and Vietnam Fatherland Front; distinguished delegates and compatriots across the country, armed forces units, scholars, intellectuals, religious dignitaries, foreign diplomatic corps, and representatives of international organizations who came to pay respects, sent wreaths and condolences, attended the funeral and burial ceremonies, and bid farewell to Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, to his final resting place.
The leaders, former leaders of the Party, State, and Vietnam Fatherland Front, comrades, compatriots, international friends, and family walked around the grave to bid farewell to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, an outstanding leader, a shining example of studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s thoughts, morality, and lifestyle, a loyal communist party member with great prestige in the Party, State, and people./.
