The Vietnam Vegetable and Fruit Association revealed that, from now until the end of the year, the vegetable and fruit industry will focus on the Northeast Asian market. By tapping into potential markets like China, South Korea, and Japan, the association aims to achieve a vegetable and fruit export target of 7 billion USD in 2024.
China, South Korea, and Japan are the dominant importers of Vietnam’s vegetables and fruits. Specifically, China has allocated 2.161 billion USD for fruit and vegetable imports, South Korea: 164 million USD, and Japan: 98 million USD. Notably, South Korea has overtaken the US to become the second-largest importer of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables.
According to Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, Secretary-General of the Vietnam Vegetable and Fruit Association, durian continues to bring significant export value in 2024, followed by other high-value fruits like dragon fruit, bananas, mangoes, jackfruit, coconuts, lychees, longans, and watermelons. These are strategic products that will contribute to Vietnam’s vegetable and fruit export turnover of 6.5 – 7 billion USD this year.
Durian is expected to bring in 3 billion USD, dragon fruit is estimated to earn about 600-650 million USD, mangoes about 250 million USD, coconuts about 240-250 million USD, and jackfruit about 200 million USD…
Mr. Nguyen Phuc Nguyen also stated that the current durian price, which has surpassed 100,000 VND/kg, is very positive and is expected to continue rising until the end of the year. The output of durian from the Central Highlands is still very large, while neighboring countries are out of season.
Vietnamese durian will dominate the market and bring good revenue to the country’s vegetable and fruit exports in the last months of the year.
