As many smartphone users grapple with the age-old dilemma of whether to embrace fast charging due to battery health concerns, Chinese smartphone brands are pushing the boundaries in this domain. Realme, for instance, has recently unveiled its upcoming charging technology, boasting an impressive 320W of power. With such a formidable output, eager eyes on Weibo predict a full charge in under 5 minutes for the upcoming smartphone.

In the realm of smartphones, fast charging is typically defined as having a power output of 18W and above. Today’s prevalent fast-charging standards oscillate between 18W and 65W. More advanced fast-charging technologies can attain 100W and beyond, but Realme’s ambitious foray into the realm of 300W+ charging is truly groundbreaking.

Realme is no stranger to super-fast charging solutions. Last year, they introduced a 240W charging standard for one of their smartphones, achieving a full charge in under 10 minutes. More recently, in a Weibo post, Realme announced their plans to unveil their new proprietary charging solution, dubbed 320W SuperSonic, on August 14 at the Realme Fans Festival 828 in China.

Accompanying this announcement was a short video snippet showcasing this technology by charging an unnamed Realme smartphone.

Realme is poised to shatter world records. Xiaomi previously demonstrated a 300W standard in 2023, but it fell short in the production phase, with power output largely capped at 290W. Realme, however, appears set to integrate SuperSonic 320W charging into a tangible smartphone, akin to their aforementioned 240W charging implementation.

Aside from charging speed, another crucial consideration is battery capacity. The battery size of the device in the video remains undisclosed, although it is likely to be substantial. Additional questions remain: Do users truly need such rapid charging speeds on their smartphones? And do these faster-than-ever charging speeds come at the cost of negative implications for battery health and temperature management?

As battery technology evolves, striking a delicate balance between speed, efficiency, and safety will be paramount for the widespread adoption of these high-output charging solutions.
