In the latest market research report from Canalys, an interesting development has emerged in the Southeast Asian smartphone market for Q2. Notably, Oppo has surpassed Samsung to claim the largest market share in Vietnam.
Another notable highlight from the Canalys report is the growth in the premium segment.
Apple’s sales performance in Southeast Asian markets, including Vietnam, showed a 15% increase compared to the first half of 2023. This growth can be attributed to their expanded retail efforts, aggressive marketing campaigns, and Tim Cook’s visit to the region. Additionally, offering older-generation devices at significantly reduced prices has helped Apple strengthen its presence in the region, opening up new revenue streams through services and solidifying its ecosystem.
While the report highlights Apple’s achievements, it also emphasizes the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for smartphone manufacturers.
Canalys analyst Sheng Win Chow states, “Currency fluctuations and market price sensitivity are challenges that manufacturers need to closely monitor.” Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries are increasingly recognized as crucial markets for smartphone manufacturers aiming to expand their global footprint.
