As of August 27th, Mr. Duong Quang Dien, Deputy Director of the Long Thanh Airport Project Management Board, shared that the construction consortium has commenced the installation of the steel structure for the airport’s passenger terminal roof. The installation is expected to be completed by mid-2025.

According to the Long Thanh Airport Project Management Board, four major packages are currently underway: the passenger terminal, the runway, two connecting transport routes, and the air traffic control tower.

The passenger terminal is considered the “heart” of Phase 1 of the Long Thanh Airport. According to ACV, Phase 1 of the airport is expected to be completed and operationally tested before August 31, 2026. On September 2, 2026, the airport will welcome its first commercial flight.

Regarding the runway, the construction consortium has mobilized thousands of workers and machinery to work on dozens of construction sites with the determination to complete and put the runway into operation before April 30, 2025.

For the two connecting transport routes (T1 and T2), more than 50% of the work has been completed so far, and the routes are expected to be open to traffic by the end of 2025.

Concerning the air traffic control tower, the concrete work will be finished by September 2024, after which the steel structure and equipment installation will commence. Upon completion, the total height of the tower will be 123 meters. The teams are striving to substantially finish the tower by April 30, 2025, to facilitate calibration flights.

The steel structure for the passenger terminal roof is valued at approximately VND 3,500 billion, accounting for about 10% of the contract value of the terminal construction project.

The quantity of steel structures for the terminal roof installation is approximately 36,000 tons. The steel materials for the roof installation are imported from abroad and processed domestically.

To facilitate the steel structure installation, the contractor has mobilized specialized machinery and equipment to the construction site.

The steel structure installation for the Long Thanh Airport passenger terminal roof is about one month ahead of the approved schedule.

The installation started with the wings, followed by the main body of the terminal. Prior to the steel roof installation, the quality of the steel was thoroughly inspected, and experiments were conducted according to the project’s technical standards to ensure quality.

The passenger terminal is the most critical component of the Long Thanh Airport Project. To date, the construction consortium has substantially completed the flooring of the four stories and has begun interior finishing. The terminal’s finishing process involves numerous steps.
