On September 1st, Coop Mart Rach Mieu in Phu Nhuan District, Ho Chi Minh City, was bustling with shoppers stocking up on groceries and consumer goods. Most fresh produce, fruits, seafood, and processed foods like pork rolls and sausages were on sale, with discounts ranging from 30% to 50%, along with attractive gifts.

“Cucumbers are now 20,000 VND per kilogram, water spinach is 18,500 VND per pack, and tomatoes are 25,500 VND per kilogram… The pork, chicken, and seafood are all fresh. During holidays like this, the products are even fresher and there are more promotions for shoppers,” said Ms. Do Quyen, a 45-year-old office worker.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thang, Deputy General Director of Saigon Co.op, shared that the significant price reductions during the September 2nd holiday are part of the “Proud of Vietnamese Goods” month, which the supermarket will observe until September 4th. There are numerous enticing promotions, such as buy-two-get-one-free and buy-one-get-one-free deals, as well as discounts of up to 50% on various fresh produce and meats.

According to Saigon Co.op’s management, sales during this period have increased by 30% compared to regular days and are expected to continue rising throughout the September 2nd holiday. The company has mobilized all its staff to serve customers shopping at the supermarket and through online delivery channels.

Aeon Vietnam’s representative stated that during the September 2nd holiday, the shopping mall attracted a large number of tourists and Ho Chi Minh City residents who came to shop, play, and dine. To meet the shopping needs of the people, the supermarket worked early with suppliers to increase inventory compared to regular days while maintaining stable prices.

“I thought the supermarket would be empty because many people go on vacation during this holiday, but it turned out to be crowded with shoppers. The products at the supermarket are very fresh, and there are hardly any items out of stock. Even though it was busy, we didn’t have to wait too long at the checkout counters,” said Ms. Minh Hoa, a resident of Ba Hom Street in District 6.

Representatives from several supermarkets stated that they had applied a 50% discount for this year’s September 2nd holiday on thousands of essential consumer goods, with the majority of the discounts focusing on fresh food products. In anticipation of higher demand during this holiday, supermarkets have increased their inventory by about 15% compared to last year. In addition to discounted items, supermarkets have also collaborated with suppliers to maintain stable prices for other essential consumer goods such as rice, cooking oil, and fish sauce.

Union Square in District 1, the Science and Technology Building in District 11, and the SC VivoCity shopping mall in District 7 are hosting promotions on branded goods with discounts of up to 80-90% on a wide range of products, including clothing, shoes, bags, accessories, and cosmetics.

On the afternoon of September 1st, Union Square was bustling with hundreds of shoppers. “The evening is the busiest time, so I came during the day, but every counter was packed. This is understandable because these brands only offer such huge discounts once a year, so everyone takes advantage of it,” excitedly shared Ms. Thu Uyen, a resident of Thu Duc City.

Mr. Le Huynh Minh Tu, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade, stated that these sales events not only provide businesses with an opportunity to connect with consumers but also enable consumers to purchase quality products at reasonable prices.

Cafes and dining areas at Vincom in District 1 and Van Hanh Mall in District 10 were almost at full capacity.

During this holiday, most food and beverage businesses in Ho Chi Minh City maintained their regular prices and did not impose any surcharges, which pleased customers.
