The First LNG Train from the South Reaches Dong Anh Station

The train, carrying 16 ISO tanks filled with LNG, has successfully completed its 1,700-km snowy journey from the South to the North, arriving at Dong Anh station in Hanoi. This remarkable feat of engineering and logistics showcases the capabilities of Vietnam's railway system and the dedication of its workers.

In the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi, amidst efforts to recover from the natural disaster and restart industrial production and domestic consumption, the Vietnam Gas Corporation (PV GAS) maintained stable supplies of gas products in the northern region.

From September 9, 2024, PV GAS safely operated the Ham Rong-Thai Binh gas system, providing low-pressure gas and CNG with a daily output of approximately 150,000-200,000 cubic meters; and supplying LPG from the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) and the terminal in Thai Binh and Hai Phong, with a daily output of 2,000-3,000 tons.

As part of ensuring comprehensive energy supply to the North, on September 9 at 6:00 PM, a train carrying 16 ISO tank containers of LNG completed a 1,700-kilometer journey from South to North, arriving at Dong Anh Station in Hanoi.

This morning (September 10), PV GAS held a ceremony to welcome the train at Dong Anh Station. The LNG was then transferred to specialized tank trucks for distribution to industrial consumers in the North.

According to PV GAS, the South-North LNG transportation marks a new chapter for the energy industry and rail transport in Vietnam. This activity has upgraded PV GAS’s LNG supply chain in particular and completed the country’s energy map in general.

In the coming days, as production activities and domestic demand recover, PV GAS guarantees stable and competitive supply from domestic and imported gas sources.

LNG first arrived in Vietnam in July 2023 through specialized import vessels at the PV GAS Vung Tau terminal, supplying the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) and industrial consumers in the Southeast region. However, the North lacks the infrastructure for LNG imports, making it challenging for consumers in the region to access this fuel source.

Together with the Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR), PV GAS successfully transported LNG to the North, ensuring a competitive and stable supply of gas products (low-pressure gas, CNG, LPG) and supporting customers in resuming production and business activities, as well as maintaining security and safety.
