On September 10, information from the Department of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs of Dong Nai province revealed that approximately 900 workers are unwilling to relocate with their companies as Bien Hoa Industrial Park 1 is set to be moved. This reluctance is mainly due to the workers’ advanced age and stable family lives in Bien Hoa city.

Bien Hoa Industrial Park 1: Current State

Prior to this, the People’s Committee of Dong Nai province approved the proposal to relocate Bien Hoa Industrial Park 1 and redevelop it into a riverside urban, commercial, and service area along the Dong Nai River.

According to the proposal, 76 businesses with over 21,000 employees will be affected by the relocation. Of these, over 6,000 workers are employed by foreign-invested enterprises, while more than 15,000 work for domestic companies. The majority of these workers are aged 30 and above.

The proposal also acknowledges the challenges that lie ahead for both workers and businesses. Workers will face difficulties with transportation and accommodation, while businesses will struggle with recruiting and training new employees. Additionally, companies will incur higher costs for housing and transportation subsidies if they aim to retain their current workforce.

To ease the transition for workers and businesses, Dong Nai province has allocated a budget of VND 1,270 billion to support workers’ livelihoods, skill development, and stable production for businesses during this period of change.
