Sustainable Blue by the Bay

The most prominent mark affirming BIM Group’s sustainable orientation lies in its tourism infrastructure and real estate development.

With a strategy to create differentiation, BIM Group has chosen to venture into untapped regions since its pioneering days. The group has successfully developed international-standard urban and tourism complexes in these once-challenging areas.

When BIM Group first embarked on its hotel project in Ha Long and began constructing the coastal road to Bãi Cháy, few could have imagined that the area would now be home to Halong Marina, a bayfront urban complex featuring renowned international resort brands such as InterContinental, Citadines, and Sailing Club.

Halong Marina, spanning 3.8 km of coastline and covering 248 hectares, has been repeatedly chosen as the venue for significant international events. These include fashion shows featuring 75 Miss Grand International contestants in 2023, the VnExpress Marathon Amazing Ha Long 2023, the Taekwondo Championship 2024, and the Miss Student Vietnam 2024. As a result, it has become a cultural and entertainment hub, significantly contributing to the local economy and elevating Ha Long tourism to new heights.

Halong Marina, a 248-hectare complex with 3.8 km of coastline, is the heart of Bãi Cháy’s tourism area.

Similarly, BIM Group ventured into Phu Quoc when it was still a pristine island. With the development of Phu Quoc Marina, a 155-hectare complex in the center of Bãi Trường, the group has created a well-invested resort and entertainment destination. It also hosts the annual BIM Group IRONMAN 70.3 Phu Quoc, an international sports event.

BIM Land, a member of BIM Group, is one of the few domestic real estate developers to meet the stringent standards of leading international resort brands such as Park Hyatt, Regent, InterContinental, Citadines, Fraser Suites, Crowne Plaza, and Holiday Inn.

BIM Land also stands out as a prominent non-public company issuing green bonds in the international market. It successfully accessed sustainable bonds to invest in environmentally friendly real estate projects. The group’s ability to align its project development with green financing from international financial institutions like IFC and ADB reflects its capabilities and development philosophy.

With its sustainability commitments, BIM Land’s hotels in Ha Long and Phu Quoc are expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 4,000 tons of CO2 per year, equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions of 890 gasoline-powered cars annually.

In August 2024, BIM Group was honored with the title of “Pioneer in the Heritage Journey” by the Vietnam UNESCO Association. This recognition affirms the group’s efforts, responsibilities, and contributions to developing tourism infrastructure while preserving and promoting the potential value of Ha Long Bay, a three-time UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site.

High-tech Agriculture Strategy

In the CafeF’s 2024 ranking of the Top 10 Private Multisector Groups with the Largest Tax Contributions in Vietnam, BIM Group is one of the few enterprises with agriculture as a core business area.

For three decades, agriculture has been a key investment focus within the BIM Group ecosystem. The group is one of the largest industrial salt producers and aquaculture enterprises in Vietnam, with thousands of hectares of farms in provinces like Quang Ninh, Kien Giang, and Ninh Thuan.

BIM Foods’ oyster farm in Ha Long Bay uses PE oyster floats to minimize environmental impact.

By applying knowledge to business, BIM Group has brought about breakthrough changes in the agriculture sector. These include the successful localization of the Pacific oyster species, contributing to the development of marine aquaculture in Quang Ninh; the introduction of white-legged shrimp from Hawaii and natural microbial farming practices in Quang Ninh and Kien Giang; and the industrial salt production model at Quán Thẻ Salt Field in Ninh Thuan, one of the three largest salt fields in Southeast Asia.

Currently, BIM Foods has invested in over 2,500 hectares of industrial salt production and 1,600 hectares of aquaculture, improving sustainable livelihoods for thousands of farming households.

Green Economic Complex

In early October 2021, the BIM Wind Power Plant in Thuan Nam, Ninh Thuan Province, began commercial operations, marking the completion of BIM Group’s strategy to combine clean energy production with clean salt production on a 2,500-hectare site with a total investment of VND 12,000 billion.

BIM Group’s renewable energy complex in Ninh Thuan combines wind power generation with clean salt production.

This complex produces 300,000 tons of salt (60-70% of Vietnam’s salt production) and 1 billion kWh of electricity annually, providing stable employment for about 1,000 local workers. Additionally, it helps reduce carbon emissions by 600,000 tons of CO2 per year, contributing to the country’s Net-zero target by 2050.

The clean energy and salt produced at the Quán Thẻ Green Economic Complex are expected to be utilized for developing green industries, creating surplus value, and optimizing local resources.

Building a Healthy Community

For three decades, BIM Group has been committed to creating green and healthy living spaces for the community through meaningful social activities.

In 2010, Elite Fitness was established, marking one of BIM Group’s first significant endeavors in the health and sports sector. With 14 clubs and nearly 75,000 members nationwide, Elite Fitness has made a significant impact. Since 2017, Elite Fitness has partnered with the Salt Cancer Initiative (SCI) to host thousands of yoga classes exclusively for cancer patients, spreading inspiring stories and promoting a healthy, balanced, and excellent lifestyle.

Throughout its journey, BIM Group has also placed a strong emphasis on CSR campaigns and community engagement. BIM Care, launched in August 2021 during the COVID-19 outbreak in the southern provinces, later collaborated with Newborns Vietnam to provide training for doctors and grassroots healthcare workers in hard-to-reach areas on minimizing the risk of neonatal mortality.

Spreading the message of a healthy and excellent lifestyle is part of BIM Group’s sustainable development vision.

BIM Group has also actively supported and participated in various meaningful social sports events, including Tay Ho Half Marathon (four consecutive seasons), UpRace, VnExpress Marathon Amazing Ha Long, BIM Group 5150 Triathlon Phu Quoc 2022, and BIM Group IRONMAN 70.3 Phu Quoc.

BIM Group’s 30-year sustainable development strategy has not only ensured its stability in production and business operations but has also demonstrated the group’s stature and responsibility.

The year 2024 marks a significant milestone for BIM Group as it celebrates its 30th anniversary with pride and confidence. With unwavering dedication and a spirit of contribution, BIM Group embarks on a new decade, committed to creating value-enhancing products for the community and fostering sustainable development in the regions it operates.
