As of now, the brand has remained tight-lipped about the future of this model.

Suzuki Vietnam has recently removed all traces of the Suzuki Swift hatchback from their official website. Visitors to the site will no longer find any information about this popular B-segment car. Furthermore, the Swift has also disappeared from the list of vehicles featured on the homepage of the Japanese automaker’s website.

It appears that Suzuki Vietnam has quietly discontinued the Swift, as they have not yet provided any official statement regarding its future in the country.

This is not the first time Suzuki Vietnam has made such a move. Previously, they had also quietly removed the Suzuki Ciaz from their website, indicating that they were discontinuing sales of that model in the domestic market.

At present, the Suzuki website only features a handful of automotive options for customers, including the Suzuki XL7, Suzuki XL7 Hybrid, Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid, and the Suzuki Jimny.

Prior to its discontinuation in Vietnam, the Suzuki Swift struggled to attract buyers. According to data from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), not a single unit of the Suzuki Swift was sold in August 2024. In the year to date, only 225 units have been sold, with 217 of those sold in the first half of 2024. The highest monthly sales for the Swift were recorded in January, with 98 units sold, after which sales steadily declined in subsequent months.

The current Suzuki Swift models are imported from Thailand, but the factory in Southeast Asia is scheduled to close after 2025. This could explain why Suzuki Vietnam has decided to discontinue the Swift, as the company adjusts its production plans for the Thai market.

The B-segment hatchback market in Vietnam has been shrinking as more and more brands withdraw their products from the market. Toyota Yaris, Honda Jazz, and Mitsubishi Mirage are among the models that are no longer available in the country.

As a result, customers now have limited options in this segment. Currently, only the Mazda2 Sport (priced between 527 and 544 million VND) and the recently launched BYD Dolphin (priced at 659 million VND) are available for purchase in Vietnam.

Suzuki Swift 2024 in Japan

According to rumors, Suzuki Vietnam is planning to introduce a new version of the Swift to the market. This new model is expected to be imported directly from Japan, which could result in higher prices due to increased import taxes. This could further hinder the popularity of the Swift in Vietnam.

The new Suzuki Swift boasts improved dimensions, with a length of 3,860 mm, a width of 1,695 mm, and a height of 1,500 mm. Its wheelbase measures 2,450 mm. The interior has been upgraded with features such as a 9-inch floating touchscreen display, cloth upholstery, a new center air-conditioning vent, an improved analog instrument cluster with a 4.2-inch multi-information display, and redesigned air-conditioning controls.

Under the hood, the Swift is powered by a new mild hybrid system, combining a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated 3-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 82 horsepower and 108 Nm of torque, with an electric motor that adds 3.1 horsepower and 60 Nm of torque. The system is complemented by a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 3Ah, and a choice of either a 5-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The fuel efficiency of this model is impressive, with a consumption rate of just 3.93 to 4.4 liters per 100 kilometers.
