Anxious Residents of Bình Định Fear Their Homes May Collapse Into the River

Over the years, 18 households living along the Kon River, south of the Ganh Bridge in Huynh Kim Ward (Nhon Hoa Ward, An Nhon Town, Binh Dinh Province), have been fraught with worry every time the weather takes a turn for the worse, as their homes are riddled with cracks and subsidence.

The home of 60-year-old Ms. Nguyen Thi Giong, built nearly 30 years ago, is now in a serious state of disrepair, with large cracks in the walls and a sinking foundation. Like many others in the area, she hopes to be relocated to a safer place before the rainy season arrives. Photo: Truong Dinh

Mr. Nguyen Minh Muon, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Nhon Hoa Ward (An Nhon Town, Binh Dinh Province), said that this area is almost like a “water funnel”, and it is truly dangerous during the rainy season. The residents’ desire for new housing is very reasonable and practical, as it would protect their lives and property.

It is understood that the Binh Dinh Provincial People’s Committee has approved the planning of a residential area with an area of over 1.2 hectares to relocate about 18 households at the foot of Ganh Bridge. Photo: Truong Dinh

The detailed planning proposal for the 1/500 Huynh Kim resettlement area was approved by the People’s Committee of An Nhon Town as per the assigned authority. The Town’s People’s Council has also included it in the socio-economic development plan for the five-year period from 2021 to 2025. Currently, the town is balancing its budget to invest in this project. Photo: Truong Dinh
