Hanoi’s Hang Ma street, famed for its vibrant Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations, has been adorned with colorful lanterns and traditional toys for over a month now. However, as the festival draws nearer, the usually bustling street has seen a noticeable decline in foot traffic.
“It’s disappointing,” shared a local vendor, expressing their concern about the lack of sales. “I’ve been here since morning, and hardly anyone has stopped to buy our Mid-Autumn Festival toys. People come to take photos and enjoy the decorations, but they’re not purchasing as much as they used to, only spending small amounts on inexpensive items.”

While many young people and schools choose to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival by donating to those affected by the recent storm, the lack of sales on Hang Ma street is a concern for vendors. The street, usually a hub of festive activity, is now adorned with lanterns and decorations that few will purchase.
“This year, our school decided to contribute to the relief efforts for families and schools impacted by Storm No. 3,” shared Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hang, a teacher at the Mario Kindergarten on Tran Khat Chan street, Hanoi. “The children brought small gifts and red envelopes as a token of their support. We hope that these gestures will bring comfort to those affected and teach our students the importance of empathy and sharing.”
