In the early morning of September 27, Vietnam time, the price of Robusta coffee on the ICE Futures Europe exchange (London, UK) was matched at 5,527 USD/ton, 81 USD/ton higher than the previous day’s settlement price for the November delivery month. This is the highest price ever for Robusta coffee on this exchange, breaking a series of previous records.
For the January 2025 delivery month, Robusta coffee prices rose even more sharply, by 90 USD/ton, to 5,242 USD/ton.
For the March 2025 delivery month, Robusta coffee prices rose by 93 USD/ton to 5,029 USD/ton.
In a quick exchange with NLD reporters on September 27, Mr. Trinh Duc Minh, Chairman of the Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Association (Dak Lak province), said that the main reason for the strong increase in coffee prices, especially Robusta, is still due to supply shortages in major producing countries such as Brazil, Vietnam, and Indonesia.

Robusta coffee price may reach the 6,000 USD/ton mark
Especially in Vietnam, in previous years, output was often at the level of 30-31 million bags (each bag is 60 kg), but in the last crop, it fell to 27.5 million bags and will continue to decrease in the future as farmers tend to switch to crops with higher economic value, typically durian.
The 2024-2025 coffee crop season, which is about to be harvested, faced drought conditions, and it was only in May-June that rains came, but the rainfall was low, causing the coffee beans to not grow as large, resulting in a sure reduction in output.
“The coffee shortage is real, pushing up coffee prices. These factors cannot be resolved in the short term, so it is possible that coffee prices will peak next year, reaching the 6,000 USD/ton level,” Mr. Minh forecast.
Mr. Minh also added that the coffee market now sees the active participation of speculators, causing market prices to sometimes deviate from the normal laws of supply and demand.
In the domestic market, prices are currently only slightly fluctuating in the range of 120,000 – 125,000 VND/kg, and there are very few transactions due to the depletion of old-crop supplies, and new-crop coffee is still scarce as the peak harvest month of November has not yet arrived.
The Robust Coffee Bean: A Record-Breaking Brew
November marks the peak harvest season for Vietnamese Robusta coffee, yet coffee prices for this period have soared to a staggering peak of over 5,000 USD per ton.
Why is the global coffee price plummeting?
Global Robusta coffee prices have plunged by over USD 100 per tonne. Compared to the peak set in late April 2024, coffee prices have declined by around USD 500 per tonne.
