Green and Smart Mobility (GSM) officially launches in Indonesia

On December 18, 2024, Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, CEO of Green and Smart Mobility (GSM), announced the official launch of VinFast and Vgreen in Indonesia, one of the worldโ€™s most populous markets, in the presence of over 700 guests, including government leaders, ambassadors, and partners.

Mr. Thanh shared that Indonesia is the third country and the largest market in GSMโ€™s global expansion journey so far. He also revealed that GSM signed several Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with nine prominent Indonesian partners, including BCA, VISA, VIETJET, FPT, AXIATA, HUAWEI, and ASRI, to accelerate the transition to green transportation.

Speaking to the international press, Mr. Thanh explained that Indonesia was chosen due to its proximity, similar cultural values to Vietnam, and its large population. He also highlighted the Indonesian governmentโ€™s progressive policies in supporting electric vehicles.

Riyatno, Deputy Minister for Climate Development at the Ministry of Investment, expressed his support for electric ride-hailing services. He believes that this initiative will create a new platform for the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia.

โ€œSuch services play a crucial role in reducing emissions, improving air quality, and contributing to the broader goal of achieving a sustainable and low-carbon economy,โ€ said Riyatno.

With its presence in Indonesia, Xanh SM aims to capture a significant market share, especially as traditional taxis face challenges with the removal of fuel subsidies. The company initially targets to operate around 1,000 VinFast VF e34 vehicles in the country, offering various promotions to users, such as a 30% discount.

Prior to this launch, V-GREEN and Prime Group, a diversified conglomerate, signed an MoU through its subsidiary in the UAE to develop VinFast electric vehicle charging infrastructure in Indonesia. The agreement aims to develop approximately 100,000 charging stations over the next three years, with a total expected investment of $1.2 billion.

In the initial phase, VinFast charging stations will be prioritized in Jakarta, Surabaya, Bali, and surrounding areas, with plans to expand further in subsequent phases. With a high rate of electrification, these areas are strategic focal points in V-GREENโ€™s expansion strategy in the Indonesian market, leveraging VinFastโ€™s diverse range of urban electric vehicles.

Construction and development of charging stations will commence in January 2025, with some stations expected to be operational within the year.
