Speaking at the construction deployment ceremony, Mr. Tran Hong Minh, Minister of Transport, stated that the collapse of Phong Chau Bridge due to Typhoon Yagi had caused significant losses of life and property and disrupted traffic on National Highway 32C.

The urgent task of mitigating the aftermath and accelerating the investment and construction of the new Phong Chau Bridge is of paramount importance. Therefore, General Secretary To Lam and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh have given resolute directives, ordering the completion of the new bridge’s construction as an emergency project and its operation by 2025.

The Minister of Transport instructed the Thang Long Project Management Board to direct the construction contractor to devise a scientific and quality construction plan while ensuring absolute safety for inland waterway traffic and preventing corruption and negative incidents.

The construction contractor (Truong Son Construction Corporation) needs to formulate a comprehensive plan, mobilize sufficient human resources, financial resources, and modern equipment, and concentrate on implementing “3 shifts” and “4 teams” to finish the project by December 22, 2025. This will promptly reconnect the regional transportation network and facilitate travel for residents on both sides of the river.

The new Phong Chau Bridge project, with an approved investment of VND 635.392 billion, was approved for investment by the Ministry of Transport as an emergency construction project on December 2. The Thang Long Project Management Board was assigned as the investor.
