On January 7, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, Vo Van Hoan, worked with Go Vap District’s People’s Committee on the 2024 work program, addressing challenges, and proposing development initiatives for 2025.
During the conference, Vice Chairman of Go Vap District, Nguyen Ngoc Anh, suggested that the vacant lot opposite Gia Dinh Park and the property currently used as an animal slaughterhouse on Le Duc Tho Street be reclaimed for the construction of schools through public investment.
The first site, 780A Nguyen Kiem, spans 21,216 square meters and has a public land origin. It is currently under the temporary management of the Center for Housing and Construction Appraisal under the Department of Construction. However, the land remains unused.

The second site, located at 139/1558 Le Duc Tho, covers an area of 16,026 square meters and is managed by the Saigon Agriculture Corporation. It is currently leased to the An Nhon Poultry Slaughter Center and is permitted to operate until the end of 2026, after which it must relocate to Cu Chi District.

Go Vap District’s proposal to reclaim these two sites for educational purposes comes amid a shortage of schools and classrooms in the area. As of the end of 2024, the district had 79 kindergartens, 23 elementary schools, 15 public secondary schools, 9 integrated schools, and 7 high schools.
Vice Chairman Vo Van Hoan expressed agreement with the district’s proposal to build nationally-accredited schools, possibly integrated schools with swimming pools and gymnasiums. However, he emphasized that any development must adhere to the city’s master plan. Additionally, Mr. Hoan encouraged the district and ward-level authorities to report and propose the reclamation of idle or rented state-owned land belonging to state-owned enterprises or central government agencies for public projects.

According to data from local construction departments: in December 2024, there were 16 projects with a total of 5,084 units eligible for the sale of future residential developments in nine provinces and cities. Notably, social housing projects accounted for half of these developments, with eight projects comprising 2,667 units.
