On February 4, in Hanoi, a ceremony was held to sign the Handover and Receipt Minutes of the Phu My 2.2 BOT Power Plant between the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Mekong Company, and EVN.

The Phu My 2.2 BOT Thermal Power Project is the first foreign-invested power project in Vietnam, with 100% foreign investment, and the investors were selected through international competitive bidding. With a capacity of 715 MW, the power plant is located in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province and is a combined-cycle gas turbine power plant using domestic gas sources. The project is implemented by three foreign investors: EDF International, Sumitomo Corporation, and JERA Co., Inc.

The Phu My 2.2 BOT Power Plant commenced commercial operation on February 4, 2005. After many years of collaboration with relevant ministries, the People’s Committee of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, and contributions from engineers, consultants, contractors, managers, and operators, the plant has now completed its operation period as stipulated in the BOT contract and has been transferred to the Vietnamese side, represented by the Vietnam Electricity Group.

Specifically, at 00:00 on February 4, 2025, the plant was successfully transferred to the Vietnam Electricity Group for continued operation and exploitation.

After the handover, the Vietnam Electricity Group will continue to operate and exploit the plant, and it is expected to contribute approximately 4.6 billion kWh of electricity annually to the National Power System. This will help ensure national energy security, stabilize the power system, and serve the socio-economic development and the needs and interests of the people.
