The $65 trillion urban railway project No. 5 is expected to break ground on December 19th this year. With a total length of 41.9 km, the line will connect 9 wards and 10 communes, significantly improving transportation in the area.

The starting point of the line is at the intersection of Van Cao and Hoang Hoa Tham streets, and it ends in Yen Bai, Hanoi. Metro Line 5 will have 21 stations, including 6 underground and 15 elevated stations. The first station of the line is pictured here. Photo: Viet Hung.

In addition to enhancing connectivity and providing convenient transportation, the metro line will also act as a catalyst for infrastructure development, particularly in the real estate sector, increasing property values near the stations.

One of the most prime locations is the Kim Ma station, situated at the intersection of major roads such as Kim Ma, Lieu Giai, Dao Tan, and Nguyen Chi Thanh. It is also the interchange with the Nhon-Hanoi Railway. Surrounding the station are several prominent buildings, including Capital Place, a $1 billion project by Truong My Lan, Lotte Lieu Giai, and Vinhomes Metropolis.

The Vanh Dai 1 station will be located at the intersection of Nguyen Chi Thanh and Chua Lang streets, an area with a high concentration of universities. The metro line will provide students with an additional transportation option and help alleviate traffic congestion in the area.

The next station will be located at the Trung Hoa bridge intersection, next to the Eurowindow Multi Complex building. This densely populated area often experiences traffic jams, and the Van Cao-Hoa Lac metro line is expected to cater to the transportation needs of tens of thousands of people daily, reducing traffic pressure.

The Hoang Dao Thuy station will be situated at the intersection of Hoang Dao Thuy and Tran Duy Hung streets, close to the Charmvit Tower.

Starting from Vanh Dai 3, the Van Cao-Hoa Lac metro line will transition to an elevated structure. The Vanh Dai 3 station is conveniently located between two large shopping centers, Go Thang Long and Vincom Tran Duy Hung. The station is also surrounded by several high-rise buildings, attracting shoppers and providing convenient transportation for residents of nearby urban areas.

The next station will be located at the intersection of Le Quang Dao and Thang Long Avenue, right next to the new headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This is expected to attract more investment projects to the area, which holds great potential for development.

The Vinhomes Smart City, a large-scale urban project with dozens of apartment buildings, will greatly benefit from the Tay Mo station (elevated). Metro Line 5 will reduce the travel time for residents to the inner city to just 15-20 minutes, compared to 45 minutes currently.

The Van Cao-Hoa Lac Metro Line 5 will contribute to a shift in transportation preferences among Hanoi residents, encouraging the use of public transportation over private vehicles. According to the Hanoi Master Plan for Transportation Development until 2030, with a vision towards 2050, the city’s urban railway system will comprise 10 lines with a total length of over 410 km.
