Vinmec Hospital Appoints New CEO: A Leading Surgeon Who Operated on Footballer Xuan Son, Part of a Pioneer Generation in Vietnam’s Orthopedic Surgery Landscape

Vingroup Corporation has announced a leadership transition within its subsidiary, Vinmec International General Hospital Joint Stock Company. Mr. Nguyen Viet Quang has stepped down from his role as Chairman of the Board of Directors at Vinmec.

Taking on the role of Chairman is Ms. Le Thuy Anh, who previously served as the General Director of Vinmec. In conjunction with this change, Vinmec has appointed Professor, Dr. Tran Trung Dung as the new General Director.

Professor Tran Trung Dung, a renowned expert in his field, was promoted to Full Professor in 2020 and Associate Professor in 2015. He has undergone extensive specialized training in various developed countries worldwide.

Over his illustrious 20-year career, Professor Dung has successfully performed over 1,000 hip replacement surgeries, 500 knee replacements, nearly 10,000 knee arthroscopies, 500 shoulder arthroscopies, nearly 100 shoulder replacements, elbow replacements, and other small joint replacements, over 1,000 minimally invasive and endoscopic surgeries for carpal tunnel syndrome, and more than 400 limb-sparing surgeries for bone and soft tissue cancers using various replacement techniques.

As a pioneer in Vietnam’s orthopedic surgery field, he has published dozens of highly acclaimed research works and contributed to over 10 textbooks. Professor Dung is also an active member of prestigious organizations such as the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the North American Arthroscopy Society, the Asia-Pacific Knee, Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Society, and the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS). He serves on the Executive Committee of the Vietnamese Orthopaedic Association and holds multiple prominent positions, including Director of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at Vinmec Times City International Hospital, Head of the Department of Orthopedics at VinUni University of Health Sciences, Medical Director of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), and President of the 3D Technology in Medicine Association of Vietnam.

Notably, Professor Dung was the surgeon who operated on forward Xuan Son after he sustained an injury during the AFF Cup 2024 final between Vietnam and Thailand.
