The Vietnam Exhibition Center project has an area of 90 hectares and a total investment of over VND 7,000 billion, invested by Vietnam Exhibition Fair Center Joint Stock Company (VEFAC), a subsidiary of Vingroup. After about 10 months of construction, the project has basically been completed and is ready to be inaugurated on August 19th, becoming the central point of the chain of events to celebrate the major holiday.
The Vietnam Exhibition Center project is not only a strategic infrastructure highlight of Hanoi but also a testament to the real capacity of Vietnamese private enterprises and especially the construction of a 24,000-ton giant steel dome.
According to the representative of Dai Dung, the contractor that completed the installation of the 24,000-ton dome in just 5 months, more than 1,000 workers and engineers had to work 24/24 hours, divided into 3 shifts, and mobilized maximum resources, materials, and super-heavy equipment. Some cranes have a capacity of up to 500 tons.
This giant dome is designed as a spatial truss with cross-heart trusses simulating turtle shell patterns. The dome uses ASTM standard steel capable of withstanding level 12 hurricanes and level 8 earthquakes. Notably, more than 100,000 high-strength steel bolts and screws were installed with a permitted error of less than 3mm, along with 3D laser scanning technology to control deformation and ensure absolute accuracy.
