Long Châu, in collaboration with V.Rohto, has taken a significant step forward in bringing quality healthcare closer to the community. According to statistics from the Ministry of Health, there are approximately 2 million blind people in Vietnam, and 80% of the causes of blindness can be prevented and treated. Refractive errors are also becoming more common among adolescents, with a prevalence rate of 15-20% in rural students and 30-40% in urban students. It is estimated that nearly 3 million students need glasses, with two-thirds of them being myopic. This situation underscores the critical need for proactive eye screening and regular eye care, especially as eye diseases are becoming more prevalent in younger individuals and silently impacting their quality of life.

Understanding that healthy eyes not only help us see but also foster meaningful connections, capture moments, and appreciate the beauty of life, Long Châu and V.Rohto have joined forces to establish 20 eye health screening centers in Ho Chi Minh City throughout August. This initiative not only offers free eye examinations but also provides professional medical advice and guidance on eye care. It aims to raise awareness about the importance of early eye care and gradually build healthy habits within the community, laying the foundation for a better quality of life and a healthier Vietnam. Qualified ophthalmologists will utilize specialized equipment to examine and provide consultations, empowering community members with the knowledge and tools necessary to protect their vision and overall well-being.

“We are delighted to partner with Long Châu on this meaningful initiative,” shared a representative from V.Rohto Vietnam. “Their involvement has not only broadened our reach but has also helped spread the message of proactive eye care to the urban population. We value this collaboration and look forward to continuing our journey with Long Châu in future community endeavors. Together, we aim to empower the Vietnamese community with healthy vision and a brighter future. We believe that eye care is more than just a medical act; it’s about enabling people to see clearly, live proactively, work efficiently, and fully embrace life. For the past 20 years, V.Rohto has been dedicated to bringing practical eye care services to the community, especially to those who lack access, through partnerships with specialized units.”

Community members undergo eye examinations and are informed about eye health risks at Long Châu pharmacy.

“The free eye examination project at Long Châu is part of V.Rohto and the ‘Radiant Vietnamese Eyes’ Fund’s ongoing community eye care initiatives,” emphasized the representative from V.Rohto Vietnam. “For over 20 years, our journey has taken us to more than 50 provinces, providing over 890,000 free eye examinations and consultations to people across the country.”

From its inception, the program has attracted a large number of participants. At the screening centers, ophthalmologists utilize modern equipment to conduct thorough and accurate eye examinations. The program’s impact is further enhanced by its ability to reach diverse community groups, providing them with the opportunity to proactively safeguard their vision. Office workers and students, who are frequently exposed to blue light, can benefit from early detection of vision decline. Older adults can be screened for risks such as cataracts or corneal damage, while children receive guidance on how to protect their eyes when using technology, fostering good eye care habits from a young age.

Long Châu and V.Rohto’s free eye examination initiative in Ho Chi Minh City continues the legacy of the ‘Radiant Vietnamese Eyes’ campaign, a 20-year commitment to community eye care.

Both organizations aspire to sustain and expand their eye care efforts, creating and disseminating positive values that contribute to enhancing the quality of life within the community.
